The fluid animation made it look good but it wasn't really much of a fight, more like an extended finisher.

Had they made it so that both Luz and Amity combine their powers to defeat the combination of both their fears it would have made it so much better by symbolizing how they both help each other face their fears. But by having the monster return to its basic form, it easies for the duo taking it down since the only strength that monster has is its shapeshifting powers.

I think that's kind of the point of cartoons nowadays. They can just keep people's expectations low enough that they're impressed with even the barest minimum, thus making a large amount of profit for very little investment of both effort and money.
