Nah, The Simone run starts off decent, but from Rise of the Olympian onwards it goes way down hill. The Amazons are treated like doormats between Zeus trying to impose patriarchy on them and the US government kidnapping Amazons and operating a fucking secret sex slave rape camp prison for them in retaliation for amazons attack. In the case of Zeus it's really weird where it shifts in not trying to villainize the argonauts by making oddly nice guys who aren't actually interested in oppressing women, and main villain role is stolen by rogue bald amazon who hates diana. Zeus litterally gets away with murdering that Hawaian god. Artemis, Hippolyta and Diana all go through suicidal funks. We don't even get see how Donna got Hippolyta out of hers. The plot with Genocide implanting a psychic effect in Donna that makes her berserk when near the lasso is more or less dropped. Genocide was a convoluted mess of a villain, and really the whole plot of Rise was a disorganized mess. Ares making a children of the corn knock off by impregnating and killing amazons. And it ends with a really meh remake of the silver serpent story from the bronze age.
It's best of the stuff from the post infinite crisis period(Heinberg, Piccoult, Amazons attack, JMS's Odyssey). But it's bellow all of those except Azzarello.
And I'm kind of a Byrne run defender, but even I have trouble recommending it by itself. Introducing Cassie and bringing Artemis back into the book was good, and I appreciate the intent with Hippolyta being JSA's Wonder Woman and Donna having her powers restored and status as an Amazon and Diana's sister in a way, but his methods of actually doing those later two left much to be desired.
DC should call WML up and offer him work. It's one of the first hiring decisions I'd make if I were in charge
