yes I am still mad about mettle. sure, heroes get revived all the time, but you think a c-lister like mettle even gets mentioned in recent comics? he's essentially dead and forgotten forever until another author gets a shot.
mettle aside, it was just not a very good series there's a multitude of infuriatingly stupid actions everyone takes.
battle royale arcs are always fucking shit, and having the battle royale "masterminded" by arcade was fucking goofy. he's never going to be a fucking threat, he's arcade for crying out loud.
those two continuation series were not good either.
are you telling me that arcade kidnaps a bunch of up and coming superheroes, forces them to kill each other, uploads it to youtube, and then doesn't get immediately slain by the multitude of older superheroes who were supposed to take care of the kids?

Arcade was a dude you put in your comic if you wanted your hero (or heroes) to fight Alice in Wonderland or a parodies of movie characters or something. It was great harmless fun, and the character himself was explicitly more in it for the thrills than the kids.
Turning him into a dude that had killed shitloads of kid heroes... well fuck, there goes the silly fun.

I had just quit reading DC, and Avengers Academy was the last Marvel book I was still hanging on to.
It wasn't THE thing to make me drop the Big Two, but it certainly made it easier to say "never fucking again."

Indie comics are what I stick to now. However bad a story's twists and turns might turn out to be, it's the fault of one writer, not the capricious whims of a team of editors and writers trying to gauge the winds of sales, to hell with what's best for storytelling.
