Shane Black making a shitty movie, who would’ve guessed.

I call bullshit. No I'm not defending Iron Man 3 Mandarin, or dumb creative liberties. HOWEVER, I find it highly suspect so many people cared about The Mandarin to begin with to raise such a stink.

Let's be honest, Iron Man was a B lister at best before the movies hit, and his rogues gallery was even less popular

>perfect time to make the mandarin a credible threat and make him interesting so that he can have a revival in the comics
>nope
>he's a joke and killian is a lame replacement
This is why the Iron Man comics are such a fucking joke. Bendis even said he based his Iron Man run on IM3.

The mandarin was a cool villain in the cartoon and had a cool design so i was excited to see him on the big screen, unfortunately he was just a joke villain to be replaced by yet another boring guy in a suit

>Bendis even said he based his Iron Man run on IM3.
What the fuck is wrong with bendis, IM3 is the worst MCU film

holy shit

I still think him taking down Kyle by breaking his hand is worse. That's bypassing a constant energy force field and hurting someone that can tank a bomb going off.

>Let's be honest, Iron Man was a B lister at best
Lmao what? Why people insist that Iron Man was like Aquaman? He's not a literal who that got a billionaire movie overnight like Aquaman, he already had huge presence on the Avengers comics, Video Games, Cartoons etc

That user is right though. Before the first movie Iron Man wasn't considered as popular as other characters like Cap, Thor, or Spider-Man.

Aquaman was debatably better known because he was the Super friend that everyone shat on. He may have had a lot of appearances Marvel media but he was never alone. He always always second fiddle to Cap or Hulk. And all of them were B tier compared to Wolverine and Spiderman at the time

Casual

>He's not a literal who that got a billionaire movie overnight like Aquaman
That’s exactly what happened to Iron Man, you fucking idiot

Thankfully we'll have a proper Mandarin at some point.

The problem wasn't people liked the Mandarin from the comics, it was that the film presents a grounded Mandarin that is genuinely terrifying and threatening, only to throw it away for a cheap gotcha and a fucking shit replacement who doesn't even jive with the established villains in the first two films.

Those villains were grounded in reality (well, as much reality as you can get from a guy making a flying suit of armor) and were born from the consequences of Tony's decision to create Iron Man (Stane from Tony's haphazard dismantling of Stark Industries and Vanko from Tony being irresponsible with the Arc reactor tech). Their connection to Tony and his decision to go public with the Iron Man project feels logical and creates a tighter narrative.

What the fuck's Killian's deal? He's mad Tony (rightfully) big leagued him and Extremis has...practically nothing to do with Tony at all? It's a completely different setup than what what previous films established and followed.

It's basically like said. They had the chance to make an honest-to-god frightening villain who fully embodies all the possible problems with Tony's identity being public but they botched it for a cheap gag and a forgettable finale.

Yeah but RDJ iron man is dead, it defeats the purpose to bring in a proper mandarin in the MCU if hes not going to face off against iron man

This comic still pisses me.

MCU SPIDER FUCKING MADE FLASH FROM AN ALPHA AS FUCK JOCK INTO A RETARDED MOUTH BREATHING SAND NIGGER

I WILL BE ETERNAL MAD ABOUT IT

If Mandarin becomes a Shang-Chi only villain and becomes popular at that point, it'll be one of many times this has happened to Iron Man. Thanos and Ghost already got bigger breaks outside of the IM books.

Sup Zig Forums, you fags still mad?

Avenger wasn't even that popular before. It is all about the Xmen, baby

Holy fucking retarded

Too be honest I was far more pissed at the treatment of Extremis than Mandarin.

I didn't get into comics until the late 90's so by that time not a whole lot was being done with Iron Man worth talking about, the Extremis Arc is what finally got me interested in him.
I mean I know right, most of the time your safest bet with a movie is to simply look at who's sitting in the directors chair, and the biggest red flag a trailer can give you is pulling this shit "from the director of" "from the writer of" "from the studio that brought you", that is the easiest way to tell its a shitty movie and not even the studio has any faith in it.

>already had huge presence on the Avengers comics, Video Games, Cartoons etc
Oh wow he was just like Black Widow.

I'm still mad they didn't put that costume in Spider-man PS4, does that count?

I was mad about it as well when it came out. I remember talking to a friend about the twist and why it sucked, but I could not properly articulate exactly why it sucked. I mainly leaned into the fact that he was a completely nerfed version of himself. Growing up, all I had as reference was his 3D animated counterpart and from Iron Man Armored Adventures. But looking back now, what sealed it was that he was just turned into a throw away gag to be replaced with a completely forgettable villain.
What is an even bigger kick in the groin is that the MCU still leaned into Dr. Strange which just showed that there was legit magic in the MCU, so it just makes it stupider that they didn't take the route that he was in possession of some of his "magic" rings.

Honestly if they just stuck with him as a generic terrorist and not had Kilian at all it would have been serviceable.

Yeah. This better tie-in with the shit happening in Spider-Man right now

>Lmao what? Why people insist that Iron Man was like Aquaman?
Iron Man wasnt even a household name like Aquaman.

>several months with this kindred nonsense
>mephisto has made deals with nearly every spider person
>omd is a big part of the storyline
>mephisto is nowhere in sight
Guess he's too busy retconning himself into the past and having Tony's adoptive father as his personal servant.
