Ive watched Trigun, Bebop, FLCL (og not that shit reboot), Black Lagoon, been a fan of Ghost in the Shell since the age of 12 when I picked up a collection of the original mango and have seen both movies (second one is worthless) and both seasons of SAC, Blood+ as well as the Last Vampire movie, Ghiblishit, like, all of it, and some other odds and ends like Eureka 7 and the og Gundam.

Anime and Cartoons at their base level are equal, they’re both animated works.

The only difference is a level of freedom to do what the creator wants. Japan has a lot of that, with the large scale manga industry having multiple magazines along side the big Jump and spanning a large amount of different age demographics means most likely there will always be a magazine that will accept your pitch, which is how most anime get their start.

Only downside is that Jump can sometimes take your pitch without syndicating it and I assume that’s standard practice.

I don’t think America would ever be willing to accept a show like Kaiji, some exec would have probably shot it down and said to just do live action with it since no adult watches cartoons or some dumb reason. America really likes to play with focus studies and research groups, not just letting a series live or die by its own merit.

So yeah, Anime isn’t better than cartoons nor is the other true. They’re both just animated works, the only difference is that Japan is more experimental and has a scene not dominated by 1-2 companies
