They ripped off a book for the first one and forgot to do the same for the second.
Lego Ninjago Movie poisoned the brand
Marketing. There was barely any of it. Hard to get audience when they don't even know your movie is out.
Phil Lord ± Christopher Miller are consistent about their father-son-bonding issues themes. But The Lego Movie is the only one that had a well-put-together message outside of generally putting out "father reconciles with son" feelers. I can't identify why Lego Movie worked, but it's not surprising that the rest of the stuff shares the range of "kind of working a little but not really."
Legit curious about which book.
The new characters weren’t interesting. The plot wasn’t very fun to follow. Emmet didn’t feel like himself nor did spending most of the movie with an unlikable jerk do him any favors. The set pieces didn’t make for fun lego sets either. I’ve always been an avid lego collector. The first movie had tons of diverse locations and vehicles that kids and adults would actually want. The sequel only offered apocalyptic crap and post-ironically girly spas and busses. There was an entire fleet of spaceships at the end of the film and none of the cool ones were made! Just the ugly Wyldstyle one.
I didn't even know it was a thing until ads randomly started popping up on YouTube in the same month it came out.
I thought it was really great. Went on the first day, but, marketing. No one i knew even knew this movie existed.
It's my favourite Lego Movie, it's a musical. Has a great plot about being masculine isn't a good thing if you're doing it by removing every childish thing from your life, including your friends and stuff you care about. It pulled of the best gender war story in any kind of media I've seen too. The new characters were cool too, Watevra was great to watch, Rex was interesting and Sweet Mayhem was cute, CUTE!
It was also the first Lego theme i actually tried to complete. I nearly have all the sets except Apocalypseburg.
There isn't a lot wrong with the movie. Just marketing and that supreme court lady reference.
>5 year gap between the first movie
>2 other unrelated Lego films came out during that gap and weren't as good
>Marketing sucked
>2nd film was fun but not as memorable or funny as the original
Lego Ninjago Movie ruined Ninjago as a whole. They had to bring the whole fucking show to a grinding halt and change the animation, VA's, and lore. Fuck Lego, they had a beautiful creation and fucking trashed it for slim profit margins. Fuck nu-jago
I haven't watched a single episode of Ninjago since like 2012 so I didn't know that, holy shit that sounds awful
I recently watched the new movie and I finished it feeling so fucking awful cause the tv show was really comfy and good.
I didn't watch it that's what's wrong. Also, the only reason I watched the first one was because I was drunk on four loko trying to fuck this girl who wasn't interested and her fat sister tried to fuck me instead. Also, after we watched archer and even drunk that shit isn't any good.
Where is the Lego movie franchise gonna go now that Universal Pictures owns it? Are they even allowed to do a 3rd movie or is a reboot inevitable at this point?
This, Lego Movie 2 really needed to be another masterpiece like the first one and it wasn't. Warner can't ever seem to get theatrical animation. They arent very good at story, they never have been.
>boys vs. girls/brother vs. sister doesn't have the same wide appeal as father vs. son/AFOL vs. kid
>barely any nostalgia pandering for the adults
>what and how it's been showing in the Lego world is actually coherent with the real one: the Bionicle cameo and the worlds they don't need to mention for example were pages from a catalog because the dad as an AFOL purist wouldn't have those figs and Bionicle was before Finn's time so he probably wouldn't have them, either - on the other hand 2 shows a bunch of Fabuland figs with no explanation and I hardly doubt that those were hand-me-downs from her mother or stuff her father bought for her from a fleamarket when the new and shiny Friends shit is around
>limited appeal of the sets due to the boy and girl theming unlike the more general ones from the first ones (well, besides that Unikitty one)
>wasteland setting was extremely underused
>some stuff is just in for the hell of it so they can sell it as toy like the Thricycle
>EVERYTHING IS AWESOME was used as a plot point in the first one while the second one randomly decides it wants to have multiple musical numbers out the ass
Liberal feminism.
Hey YOU! Watch Lego City Adventures.
Nobody wanted it, the first LM made bank because of the novelty of the idea: a Hollywood movie about Lego.
They made it as if the little sister wasn't the bad guy all along, except that is exactly what she was. The boy had a fucking awesome post apocalypse themes world going on, basically just letting his sister do her thing, while he could do his, but he's portrayed bad guy cuz he won't let his mentally retarded sister, who still uses Duplo, and can hardly form any normal shape, destroy everything he made. Also, just narratively speaking, the Antagonists of the movie are still the antagonists, despite the movie trying to say "Oh, well, you just didn't understand them." Kidnapping, Brainwashing, Assassinations where they couldn't kidnap or brainwash, and probably more shit.
Anything having to the with the in universe narrative, and the semi-meta narrative, are just fucking garbage.
Nobody knew it was out because they didn't advertise it. There were people on Zig Forums going "wait, this came out?" TWO WEEKS into its theater run.
The movie itself is great.
sets were ridiculously overpriced though
>Has a great plot about being masculine isn't a good thing if you're doing it by removing every childish thing from your life, including your friends and stuff you care about.
But it doesn’t have anything to do with masculinity? It was about how even if you grow up, you shouldn’t reject your old interests to feel more mature.
First film came as a suprise, it looked like an entirely cynical pile of garbage, but ended up pretty good, the second film had the expectation of being a sequel to a pretty good film that had a lot riding against it, and suffered because of it.
Sorry, i meant mature. Rex oozes masculanity so i got confised for a sec.
It was a good movie. Just not as good as the first. But nobody ever knew it ever came out.
Also the brother should have beaten the sister to death for being a horrible little shit.
On my eyes it was much better movie than first one but less fun.
Her sister was 4.
But wasn't the movie a metaphor that the girl wanted to marry her own brother?
The cowards didn't put Bionicle again.
They did my boy dirty
