Why isn't it the behemoth it used to be?

Why isn't it the behemoth it used to be?

It feels like it largely faded from the public consciousness, especially when I remember the scramble around the S3 premiere just three years ago when they dropped it on April 1st.

It caught on temporarily because of its originality, shock value, and deep topics that it touched on. But this is only enough for a flash in the plan of popularity. It would have to deliver either consistently hilarious humor or satisfying plotlines to keep people hooked, and it doesn't have either of those.

Whatever happened to the "Watching Rick and Morty makes you smart" crowd? Haven't heard from them in a bit.

even they died down when
>the anti fandom ridiculed them worse than furries
>S4 took too long, was split in half for some fucking reason, and was a fucking disappointment

It all went to shit officially with Pickle Rick.

It tried to go political and appeal to mainstream which was never what made it big to begin with. Normies have 0 attention span and will just mindlessly consume low effort garbage. Thus

didn't strike while the iron was hot

i think the backlash to its toxic fanbase played a big role in its loss of relevance. Pretty much discouraged all discussion.
Actually thought the recent season was a big improvement.

pretty much this, if I had to point to one thing it would be the szechuan sauce nonsense. No one wants to be associated with a bunch of screaming dipshit manchildren who threw a tantrum because they didn't get their tendie sauce

That shot killed the fandom for sure. At that moment Ricky and Morty fans were more cringe than bronies.

It still thrives as on merchandise, which seems to be the focus now.

it was never that big outside of meme around it I think, consider that the guy who screamed like a madman in the mcdonald and became the symbol of it was actually making an ironic youtube video

The show fell victim to its own hype.

It was a niche show that had some fun with itself and was quite amusing with its satire. Now it is a show that whores itself out to Big Brands®, takes itself super seriously, only satirizes things Harmon doesn't like, and has "deep" character melodrama.

>Why isn't it the behemoth it used to be?

Because everything after season 2 has been unmitigated shit.

>Tfw thought Rick and Morty was cool as hell back in 2014
>2020
>People know it as the meme cartoon

That video was supposed to be satire. Instead it became a call to arms. The entire show creates the thing it hates.

I still like it

It was a cult favorite on a niche network that gained mainstream success. Adult Swim had never had such a commercially viable hit before and they allowed mainstream pressure to cloud their judgment in marketing. Of course a desire for fans to protect the purity of the original project from outside influence created backlash (insert high IQ meme post here) and gave the whole thing a stigma of being for faux intellectuals and dudebros. Combined with the cringey embarrassment of the Mulan sauce meme and the long hiatuses, I think it’s safe to say everyone just got tired of it.

It hasnt been on the air for like 6 months dude

Yeah looking at it you can tell he’s totally putting on an act. But I’m actually more amazed by the people he was mocking who did in fact take the whole sauce thing too seriously. I also partially sympathize with McDonalds for underestimating the Internet’s stupidity.

>bigger budget
>changes in writers.
>taking much longer to release a season
>using a slow ass method of animation
>spending more time on backgrounds than they do the writing now

Did it to themselves.

Literally just because it took them a million years to make S4. The boost in popularity they got from S3 had already come and gone.

>using a slow ass method of animation
what method

Here, try not to get too triggered by the california hipster faggots.

One has to wonder, did they work at having such punchable faces, or does it come naturally?

there was a longer version somewhere that showed them doing more animation but couldn't find it. Lots of stretching and fooling around with the characters and tweaking instead of just fucking drawing the line right from the start.

but why uing this convoluted technique

Female writers got involved and they forced out the seasons as fast as possible.

>supposed to be satire.
There's still a level when satire becomes actual autism

Large gaps in production. Even Family Guy which has a longer production time managed to get a corona virus comment in their latest season. Plus the main consumers, USA and UK, have weird distribution rights. For example the 2nd half of S4 isn't on UK Netflix yet. This contributed to lack of public consciousness and stuff like Star Trek Lower Decks came out. Other shows took over.
