They both seemed doomed to fail. Take body positivity, improving the self esteem of children may seem like a good cause, but the logical conclusion is to keep moving the line. Some people are not self motivated to keep themselves healthy, and the social stigma does a good thing for them.
In a sense, it was good when media could make fun of these people. It had the effect of keeping movements in check. There was progress, but also people pushing back, making sure things didn't go too far.
Thinking back, the PPG had a good number of social commentary villains in their rouge's gallery.
