Many Happy Returns is the final arc of the 1996 Supergirl ongoing and is most famous for being the return of the original Supergirl (Kara Zor-El/Linda Lee Danvers).
If you don't know, the original Kara died back in Crisis On Infinite Earths and was meant to stay dead. There was an editorial mandate that required Clark to be the last Kryptonian alive. So that meant Kara had to be non-existent in the post-crisis universe.
However writers wanted to use Supergirl anyway. They just had to make sure she wasn't Kryptonian. That gave us Matrix (A shapeshifting alien) and Linda Danvers (A human girl with angelic powers).
I believe this arc was sort of meant to be test drive for Kara's popularity. Because shortly after, post-crisis Kryptonian Kara was brought back in Superman & Batman by Jeph Loeb.
This page was originally a two page spread that you had to turn on its side. I actually have a physical copy of this issue and let me tell you, it's a pain in the ass to read.
Zig Forums will know it for the Out of context marriage of a Supergirl and Superman!
A weird decision, but it's Benes at his best imo. IIRC Didio came boss at DC and when someone explained to him current Supergirl's somewhat convoluted origin he went "AXE IT AXE IT"
>IIRC Didio came boss at DC and when someone explained to him current Supergirl's somewhat convoluted origin he went "AXE IT AXE IT" Probably for the best in the long run. I like Linda but her backstory does get kind of complicated.
