Yeah and realizing that made me enjoy it a lot less. Evangelion is my favorite show and Bojack had some similar shit going on in the beginning but it was still it's own thing, it really leaned into ripping off Eva in the last few seasons when they decided to make everyone an asshole and depressed. It was better when it was focused on just Diane and Bojack being two depressed cynical assholes in a mostly happy world.

Eva is about teen angst and Japanese social isolation+expectations having increasingly damaging effects on the cultural zeitgeist resulting in the complete destruction of future generations.
Bojack is about cycles of abuse and the systems of power that enable the mentally ill to survive regardless of their actions so long as their existence is financially profitable.
Neither concept exists in the other. Even the child star in Bojack represents the self-aware pattern of self-destruction resulting from indulgence after traumatic events such as molestation.

- underwater episode
- nearly entire cast is hiding in the house to be not spotted, while PB is having an argument with Pickles
- when Todd and her gf are trying NOT to have sex
- the monologue episode
- about struggles of fertility and adoption

It's mostly about the characters' and their arcs.
- As far I know anons had complained mostly about Todd and Diane (in this order).
- Nearly everyone loved PC and PB as the best characters.
- Bojack itself is a split.
Other things:
- Background jokes are the highlights, i.e.:
-- animal-like characters are doing their animal stuff
-- puns on TV news
-- pic related
- those "comedy routine" episodes per season are just worth to watch
- and those fucking tongue twisters mostly done by PC (to annoy VA - Amy Sedaris, as she complained about them) - youtube.com

The only relation is that they are both comedies(if you don't think eva is a comedy, you don't understand it at all), actually is bojack supposed to be a comedy? I'm not sure, but it definitely has comedic moments.
I suppose you could argue that they both appeal to the "this is so deep" crowd, the difference is average vocabulary, pony person was designed to do that, while for evangelion, it is an unfortunate byproduct of the unique form of humor.
