Public Domain Superheroes

Why do you think the big two haven’t bought these classic early superheroes from the public domain yet?

Not really Marvel but I can imagine DC doing some pretty interesting stuff with these guys. Most of them have really classic looking designs. Fits in with the golden age aesthetic that DC likes to drudge up every now and again.

(Btw I know DYNAMITE did a series with these guys)

Cause it's not like they needed to, DC got the rights to use the Fawcett and Quality Comics characters (or so it's believed; people believe many of them might actually be PD).

Besides, DC owns a version of the Nedor characters through Alan Moore's take on them in Terra Obscura. Roy Thomas repurposed the name Amazing-Man and made a whole other character that wasn't the same as the Golden Age one. Marvel also has their own version of Amazing-Man but named Prince of Orphans, and indirectly owns a different version of the character because they bought out Malibu.

> Doc
Kek, theres all these superheroes with masks and names and shit, and some guy called "Doc" just rolls up beside them.

You can't buy characters out of the public domain.

His actual name is "Doc Strange", but Dynamite called him "Doc" just because they believed it would conflict with Marvel using Doctor Strange. Alan Moore's version for Terra Obscura was called Tom Strange mainly because he repurposed him as an alternate Tom Strong.

Are these actually public domain superheros? Like Robin Hood and Sherlock Holmes, characters anyone can use and profut from?

Yes. There's a shitload of them out there.

Most might be.
