X-MEN FILM SERIES

Too much negativity about them lately, let's talk about the things that went right instead.

Starting with the obvious: The casting in general, especially Wolverine, Deadpool, Beast and both versions of Xavier and Magneto.

The black suits look good and nobody will convince me otherwise.

The score to X-Men 1 had so much personality and is hands down my favorite score out of the X-men movies.

No McKellen was way, way too old. It's nice he got to do his Shakespearean thing and bring some gravitas, yada yada yada, but way too old to feel substantial or vital. Also Singer's decision to draft co-stars and small roles with his menagerie of impressionable twinks he was fucking, or trying to, casts a dark shadow over the whole thing.

But Wolverine wasn't a manlet

for all the criticism they get, I don't think mcu will be better

>way, way too old

Magneto has been a Holocaust survivor since the 80s. McKellen was about the right age to have been in the Holocaust, at the time the films were made. He was born in 1939, after all.

If you ignore the superkids at the end, Logan was a genuinely, really good movie and.

It was a good franchise overall, with several very good films.
There were missteps but the whole thing only developed a bad rap when Disney needed it to in order to make Fox look bad. Even just in general, normal fans were so captivated by the idea of the MCU that they automatically became addicted to putting down Fox's X-Men.
The MCU had many subpar films with wildly "not-like-the-comics" characters (IM 2 and IM 3 sucked, Thor 2 sucked, AoU was subpar, Thanos had no Death motivation, Captain Marvel was subpar, various Spider-Man characters not being recognizable), but no one cares to talk about that.
Instead, after DoFP (which was well-received in 2014) we had a ramp-up of viral negativity for X-Men online, ending with Dark Phoenix (which was admittedly bad). But during that in-between time, everything was reeeeally negative, for no real reason.
Yeah, Apocalypse was subpar.
But otherwise we got:
Deadpool
Logan
Deadpool 2
Three good/very goo movies.
And yet EVERYTHING online about the brand was negative.

Didn't really care for the part where Kitty Pryde transitioned

biggest flaw was it never felt like a team movie. it was just the Wolverine/Xavier/Magneto and sometimes Mystique (if Jennifer Lawrence is playing her) show.

> X1
Good

> X2
Very Good

> X3
Decent

> Origins
Weak (saved from being full on bad by a good cast, especially collins & liev)

> First Class
Great

> The Wolverine
Very Good

> Days of Future Past
Great to Strongly Great (just below winter soldier/civil war in quality and right above both guardians)

> Apocalypse
Very Good

Haven't seen DP 1-2, Logan, Dark Phoenix & New Mutants.

It's hilarious to me that JLaw did a worse job playing Mystique than a fucking supermodel.

Rebecca Romajin is a champ, she did the makeup and shit without bitching how long it took.

Jerry O'Connell is lucky to have her as his wife.

>IM 2 and IM 3 sucked, Thor 2 sucked, AoU was subpar, Thanos had no Death motivation, Captain Marvel was subpar, various Spider-Man characters not being recognizable
None of them were as bad as X3, Origins or Dark Phoenix.

Remember, Jennifer Lawrence has no actual talent, the only reason she became famous was by being Weinstein's cock sleeve. Notice how now that Harvey is out of Hollywood she has dropped off the face of the Earth.

They were bizarrely the most authentic movies to their source in that they were capable of being both overly self serious and overly silly, featured way too much Logan, refused to catch newcomers up and were filled with alternate timelines, time travel, recasts, retcons and every kind of franchise bloat fuckery there is.

Still the best live action comic book universe.

>things that went right instead.
The New Mutants, eventually. For all the delays and talk of reshoots, what came out what the directors original pitch. It stayed a horror movie despite FOX wanting to turn it into a teen drama/comedy

>He didn't like the part where Kitty Pryde and Jubilee changed actresses every movie

>> Apocalypse
>Very Good
Trash

How bad is Dark Phoenix?

Origins I passed on and X3 I can handle watching since it means The Wolverine and DOFP follow it but I've yet to watch Dark Phoenix

this is also what made The New Mutants better, everyone had important backstories told through the horror elements and everyone had important roles to play. Dani was the main character but she didn't overshadow all the others.

it was WAY worse than X3, it may be worse than Wolverine Origins.

I didn't like Apocalypse from the little I saw on TV. Logan was neat, but the last act was kind of lame. 2 and Days of Future Past were my favorites.

>featured way too much Logan
But he was the best actor capable of doing the stunts needed.

>Logan was neat, but the last act was kind of lame
>he doesn't like Wolverine actually acting like Wolverine

I liked they did Bishop in Day of Future's Past. I want a Bishop stand-alone film. The only sad thing is they made him explode when he says he doesn't know what his limit is in the comics and he should have been able to redirect those beams into the Sentinels without his gun anyway.

I think them having Kitty Pryde played by a man was a bold decision.

Really bad casting for Storm. Halle Berry is a prom Queen.

Didn't like when they made Jubilee a dyke and put her with a Korean pop star to appeal to millennials

It was used to destroy America t b h
