Well yeah, what did you expect? Neither the producer nor the showrunner hardly ever cared to reign the staff in, a staff (ironically given they're the type of people to abusive this word) made up of rather entitled people. The one time a member of the staff had to be told she couldn't just enforce her own vision at the expense of everyone else, she freaked the fuck out. It could have been a lot better if someone had the balls to tell them that there needed to be a clear outline and that you can't shit out a storyboard in a few minutes, especially if the animators are told to stick as closely to it as possible.

Now maybe the problems with the rushed storyboards could have been excused (from a deadline sort of perspective, not a creative one) if the show had indeed been on a tight schedule... Except Steven Univserse is shockingly short for a show that lasted seven years and aired in weird little batches. It's only about half as long as any other show that lasted that long.

No. Teen Titans Go started the same year as Steven Universe, has the same episode runtime and still has Steven Universe, airs on the same network. The only reason that show isn't twice as long (although it's really close) is because the current season slowed down.
