Rick, the only connection between your unquestionable intelligence and the sickness destroying your family is that everyone in your family, you included, use intelligence to justify sickness. You seem to alternate between viewing your own mind as an unstoppable force, and as an inescapable curse. And I think it's because the only truly unapproachable concept for you is that it's your mind within your control. You chose to come here, you chose to talk, to belittle my vocation, just as you chose to become a pickle. You are the master of your universe, and yet you are dripping with rat blood and feces, your enormous mind literately vegetating by your own hand. I have no doubt that you would be bored senseless by therapy, the same way I'm bored when I brush my teeth and wipe my ass. Because the thing about repairing, maintaining, and cleaning is, it's not an adventure. There's no way to do it so wrong you might die. It's just work. And the bottom line is, some people are okay going to work, and some people... Well some people would rather die. Each of us gets to choose.
Rick...
>And the bottom line is, some people are okay going to work, and some people... Well some people would rather die. Each of us gets to choose.
that's a very asian statement
I prefer the version of this doctor that makes Morty and Summer fuck.
>Harmon tries to psychoanalyze himself and fails miserably
The dumb asshole has ADHD and most likely an undiagnosed autoimmune inflammation disorder.
This is where the show started to suck. Not because of the pickle rick meme but because we get random lady doing a Morgan Freeman and explaining the plot. The characters didn't learn for themselves. You just get one piece of the invoice from a therapist in the first session.
It's like the Stewie and Brian Family guy roadtrip eps when they try to have a 'profound' ending. Just comes across as eye rolling.
Doesn't help that they literally showed Rick being able to withstand this sort of manipulative stuff a few episodes before.
It's just Dan Harmon vomiting his issues onto the page. He's depressive and ADHD and I assume self-medicating with alcohol
>Dan Harmon
Could've sworn this character was a self-insert of some other writer
Yup. This is the scene that killed the show. This is what happens when you let an inexperienced writer try to psychoanalyze a character to show how "intelligent" and "mature" she is.
I don't take this as an accurate description of Rick or she's genuinely interested to helping him either. She was trying her insult best to insult Rick hence
"And the bottom line is, some people are okay going to work, and some people... Well some people would rather die. Each of us gets to choose" and "You are the master of your universe, and yet you are dripping with rat blood and feces, your enormous mind literately vegetating by your own hand."
She comes off as condescending right after Rick was explaining to her that he doesn't need therapy. She punches below the gut and portrays herself as someone not easily impressed by Rick's gifted abilities. While it is true that Rick can be a shitty person, there are times he's self aware of his bad decisions and does make amends for them. She knows damn well her life is boring, constantly talking to people about their inane lives everyday. But she'll wasn't going to take shit from Rick, especially if he was literally in a vegetated state.
This. I think therapy is pretty gay, but isn't this kind of the exact opposite of what therapists are supposed to do?
>implying Harmon has ever been to a therapist
Did "you're in complete control of your brain" not tip you off?
Cognitive therapy is tough
based
Is it though? From what I've heard from family and friends, you just pay a shitload of money to have someone pretend to care about your problems. It seems gross to me.
That's not cognitive therapy, that's bullshit from someone with a degree in something stupid like hypnotherapy.
Cognitive therapy is a very specific form of treatment that involves a slow process of recognizing engrained and repetitive thought patterns and learning tricks to cut off and reroute those patterns in a constructive way. The more you use a set of neural connections the more likely those connections are to refire, they get reinforced. Over time the harmful thought patterns are overcome by the reinforced constructive thoughts.
It's literally retraining your mind through diligence and support.
>While it is true that Rick can be a shitty person, there are times he's self aware of his bad decisions and does make amends for them
Does he though? His amends tend to be bandaids and the characters effected around him have to recover from the damage he does to their lives. Plus, those people who realize they are bad and still keep doing it anyway are pretty shit people. "I know I'm bad, but at least calling myself a piece of shit makes me less bad, right?" No, it makes you worse because you choose to stay in that state and make no effort to change. If you've ever dealt with those people, you'll know they suck the life out of you, coming in ruining everything and then using their self loathing as a deflection.
Im not really defending Rick. You're right that his amends do be more like band-aids than actual good solutions. But when will his family decides to stop putting up with Rick's bullshit? Rick has abandonment issues and he's very dependent to Beth and Morty. Jerry is the only one that can call out Rick's bullshit the most, the rest of the family still goes for the ride.
Despite all that, he's still entitled to believe he doesn't need therapy. He knows things than all humans don't know about the universe. He's not going to level down to a person with just a PHD to her name.
I don't think you meant to respond to me.
Yes I obviously meant as a response to
tldr
She needs lewd art.
What goddamned shitbrained retard decided to turn the parody of a cartoon scientist from the first season into woe-is-me-I'm-too-smart-for-this-cruel-world masturbation material?
Not one “goddamned shitbrained retard” but a team of goddamned shitbrained retards. The writers bought into their own show’s hype straight after season 2. They thought they could just shove anything in an episode and it’d be good, that’s why so many people believe that “Pickle Rick” was the moment the show jumped the shark.
this show sucks
The characters in Rick and Morty dont learn from themselves, their endless cycle of failing and mediocrity is the point
Venture Bros. does it without being obnoxious.
>There's no way to do it so wrong you might die
That's untrue though. People die every year from fucking up simple tasks. More people die cracking their head open on the toilet bowl after passing out from throwing up drunk than are killed by sharks.
>NOOOOOOOO MUH PICKLE RICK IS SUPER SPESHUL AND TOO POWERFUL AND HIS 200 IQ MEANS HE IS ALWAYS RIGHT YOU CANT POINT OUT HIS FLAWS!!! WUBBA LUBBA DUB DUB SZECHUAN SAUCE!
You guys talk so much. Yet you’re all retarded. What gives?
Why does everybody think that R&M is trying to be deep when they literally get across they aren't and are MOCKING THE VIEWER for thinking they are smart. There is literally bits where Rick says this shit outright. Do you all think Rick is meant to be a character to look up to and not just one of those insufferable 'I believe in science so everything I say is right' faggots? Science is a strong hook and there are some things that should be followed but Rick is meant to be the insufferible kind of person who thinks if he doesn't know something it isn't worth knowing and if he has an opinion is right. How many times does Morty (who is a self-insert for the LITERAL FUCKING 14 YEAR OLDS WHO WATCH THE SHOW) calling him out on this shit have to happen before you realise this? It's just a dumb Doctor Who x BTTF cartoon and I will watch it because 1. Futurama is cancelled and 2. It's on Disney+ and that sucks.
It blows both hot and cold; one episode trying to be a serious drama, the next saying the viewer is stupid for expecting serious drama. The sloppiness of the writers' room is not the responsibility of the audience.
There is lots of dumb shit, the fact there is 'sloppiness' is the exact point. It isn't MEANT to be serious and that sloppiness is proof of it. For example, one episode, Rick says he is scared of pirates. But that's after he was all for Pirates of the Pancreas so he can't be. That is sloppiness you're talking about. Yet other episodes will have them reference stuff from S1 or S2. My point is that it isn't meant to be serious. Are there 'serious' episodes? Yes, because it's Emmy Bait. They want awards and they won't get it for 'Dragon orgies' episodes. Family Guy has tried it dozens of times and it never happens and every season has multiple scenes w here they complain about no Emmys. That's it. In ye olde days, cartoons used to have a message where they'd go 'We all learned that you can't be racist :)' and since there isn't that really in Rick and Morty, you have episodes where you cover 'mental health' or 'loneliness' or whatever so you can have some 'kudos' for your creation instead of it being a fuck around.
Why can't people see that I don't know.
>sure they try to be serious
>but they're not serious when they do it
>it's your fault for not getting that
