Jon makes Damian behave like the kid he is, and Damian has years of experience and learning to help Jon grow. Jon is kindness incarnate as you'd expect of the son of Superman, and Damian is the endearing little shit you've come to love over the course of his comics.
It's a similar appeal as early Young Justice when it was just Tim, Conner, and Bart.
