Can anyone think of Venture Brothers retcons or continuity mistakes? Rewatching the series, I realize that when Monarch throws out Dr. Girlfriend and she goes over to Phantom Limb's, he is shocked to see what her old costume used to look like even though Monarch specifically went after Queen Etheria back when he was moonlighting as proto-Monarch.

There's a good bit of continuity errors and retcons throughout VB. Though the one I was never sure of but has it been confirmed retconed what wether Sgt. Hatred molested the kids?
He took a super-soldier serum that made him a pederast
I thought the serum brought out what was inherent in him, and his will power (hatred) is what keeps him pure
inb4 hank and his mighty whites
yes he did, I think Hank remembers Dean doesn't. I think the Monarch was more shocked she was in her old uniform not what it looked like but I'll watch again. Like shocked she had already moved on from him so quick
He was disgusted that she was wearing it again, he remembered it and said as much that he was able to get her out of it in minutes the first tine they fucked.
It's not a retcon at all. He's just surprised that she's wearing her old costume so soon after breaking up with him.
just rewatched it, that is the context
The Guild went from a Supervillain benefits program with rules to keep them in check with the good guys, to a Supervillain to Superhero match up program to a bunch of LARPers that play fight with the OSI.
He became a foot doctor?
I'm not really seeing the difference.
It's a matter of perspective really
The Guild's relation to the heroes of the wold has always been nebulous, but it's whatever. It's not really a continuity driven show, even if they call back to so much stuff.
Here's a big one
>GCI was underground ad unknown to the OSI
>OSI is busy fighting the real enemy of freedom SPHINX
>somewhere along the line, GCI is exposed and GCI and OSI begin their rivalry
>Treaty of Tolerance is created and mediated by Jonas Venture Sr.
>BUT at the beginning of season 7, Red Skull reveals that Jonas "died" on movie night of Gargantua 1
>Sovereign frames Sphinx
>Jonas' "death" kickstarts the war between OSI and Sphinx
This timeline is a clusterfuck and it only became that way in season 7. How could Jonas have written the Treaty of Tolerance if he was "dead" before the Guild was even out in the open?
I don't think the Guild was unknown then? They literally have recordings of the original Guild founders talking about the ORB
they were unknown to the OSI though. Brock even says he got recruited to fight SPHINX.

That doesn't mean OSI was unaware of the Guild, just that they were focusing on SPHINX at the time.
there's an entire flashback episode of Hunter and Brock trying to prove the GCI exists.

my interpretion is that the guild was big in the 50s-70s and then "died out". OSI thinks it's gone and focuses on Sphinx. I also believe OSI/Guild have a common origin in the ORB and they split or forgot their purpose somewhere along the line
you're right about the common origin. The guild being around in the 50s and 70s wouldn't fit though. Why wouldn't the OSI know about or believe in the GCI if they'd been around only 20 years prior.
>Why wouldn't the OSI know about or believe in the GCI if they'd been around only 20 years prior.
But hasn't the Guild been around since the Victorian era? And didn't we see Hatred who used to work for OSI as an undercover Guild agent, hinted at when he pulls out the Guild ring and puts it on? I always assumed Guild had other people like Hatred working from within trying to keep the agency "just a myth" and focus resources on other shit, like fighting SPHINX (a fake diversion enemy).
The Guild had previously been out in the open in the 50s and 60s, that's when the Treaty of Tolerance was brokered and Jonas and his crew had all of their adventures that inspired the Rusty Venture Show. Then the Guild went into hiding in the 70s for as yet unknown reasons (probably to do with Fake Bowie becoming Sovereign and the Investors taking control) and Jonas and the OSI and all of the other heroes thought they were gone for good. Then in the 80s Red Death's crew mount their raid of Gargantua 1, a massacre occurs (again for as yet unknown reasons), and Fake Bowie uses Jonas' death as way to spark a war between OSI and SPHINX, then after the OSI destroys SPHINX in the Pyramid Wars the OSI reveals itself publicly again, probably some time in the early to mid 90s.
Obviously that last sentence should read that the Guild revealed itself again after the Pyramid Wars, not the OSI.
The old guild wasn't a villainous organization, it use to be the guardians of the ORB.
this is all correct. However, it has nothing to do with the point I was making. Why would there be a Treaty of Tolerance between the OSI and GCI if the OSI didn't even know the GCI still existed. I'm saying that the writers fucked up the timeline and it's a discrepancy.
this would certainly work in the established timeline. However, I don't think they've actually shown or addressed what the GCI was doing in the 50s and 60s. Also, if this is the cannon timeline, it wasn't handled very well. The GCI was around at most 20 years ago, but everybody acts like they're a myth? I think it was just a slip up by the writers
I don't even need to rewatch it, I remember the scene. She straight up TELLS him, after he mentions that he can see her "dirty pillows", that he didn't have any problems with that costume the night he met her. His response was that it was only because he had her out of it within the night, and that "he made her the Monarch's."
Remember when the Monarch was post coital during their wedding night in the ocean, and then Dr. Mrs. The Monarch had some big secret to tell him, and all we got was The Monarch's reaction to it?
Cause they forgot.
Wasn't it the duoship thing?
Nope. They just forgot they did the reveal and kept writing. By the time they remembered it was too late to do anything with it.
>and his will power (hatred) is what keeps him pure
No, they went out of their way to specifically point out that he has no willpower in regards to it. The GCI saw his pedophilia as he put it "a dang special skill", and the OSI gives him medication to keep it in check. The only thing, by Hatered's admission, that kept his urges in check when he was with the guild was his wife.
Who's the guy at the very end in the red scarf that delivers the note? Kind of looks like a proto-Hank. Just about everyone in that scene is someone..
Yes, it was confirmed the "big secret" was the duoship.
>Why would there be a Treaty of Tolerance between the OSI and GCI if the OSI didn't even know the GCI still existed.
Because the first Treaty of Tolerance took place in 1960, and then the GCI went underground until Sphinx was destroyed in the pyramid wars of 87? Where do you think "Rusty's Law" comes from?
>They just forgot they did the reveal
The reveal was that Shiela filed for Duoship with the Guild. Doc and Jackson couldn't have more clearly spelled it out in the season 3 premier.
