FAQ U: >How do I learn a language? What is the best way to learn one? How should I improve on certain aspects? Read the damn wiki >Should I learn lang Y so I can learn lang X? No, unless it's Esperanto >What is the most useful language? Proto-Finnish >What language should I learn? Neo English
what are some languages you'd be interested in learning more about (not necessarily becoming fluent in) despite having no practical utility, and why? I'd really like to learn a bit of Basque (it's super interesting how different it is from all the Indo-European languages it's surrounded by) and maybe some native American languages like Quechua.
Finnish, basically just to see if it's really possible to understand that utter nonsense
Carson Butler
if you think finnish is nonsense try hungarian, that shits ridiculous
Andrew Brooks
Has anyone done Ajatt/MIA?
Brody Scott
Hungary is a cultural enigma to me. It seems like an oddball country among other European nations, but it's nevertheless sophisticated.
Isaac Cook
>tried learning hungarian for a year >could never get past simple verb conjugation What the fuck is wrong with magyars? No wonder they couldn't assimilate their territories, their language is too fucking hard
Brody Davis
They are sophisticated Budapest is one of the most beautiful cities in the world They are also as poor as Croats even without the war And they have a huge gypsy population But I like Hungary they're basically Slavs that speak an Asian language
They also have a very developed musical culture. One of the most influential composers of the first half of the 20th century came from there, and even during the hard times in the communist era they had a lot of music schools.
Tyler Adams
Yeah but Finland has better memes

I don't know how accurate this is when Germans sit between Hungarians and Bosnians and when we sit between Croats, Hungarians AND ORCS.
Juan Russell
There are many maps all of them say Hungarians are Slavic (Slovakia being the closest match Slovenia, Croatia second)
Levi Martinez
Without a doubt, but I'm saying the chart itself is kinda bad

is hello talk better than interpals when it comes to actual language exchange without all of the coomers?
Nicholas Gomez
Are those the only two? I used hello talk a long time ago it seemed like tinder but even cringier Did it change?
Connor Barnes
hello talk kinda sucks because you're supposed to type in your TL and the othee guy types in their TL, seems extremely stupid, I dont wanna have a convo where both people are literally speaking different languages
Joshua Myers
Hello I just started learning German a 4 days ago. I was stuck on when to use Nicht vs Keine. But I think I figured it out. Nicht is for adding a negative to adjectives. Keine is for adding a negative to a noun. Am I correct?
Jacob Nelson
kein(e) = nicht ein(e) ...

>What language(s) are you learning? Italian, Japanese, English (first language is Spanish) >Ask questions about your target language! Wtf is the difference between どこ and どちら???
Also pic related broke me, I love Japanese but goddamn I feel like it's gonna take me decades to be fluent I'm willing to wait and practice as much as I can but I just wish it didn't have to take so long

Makes same sound as German 'ö'
Sebastian Harris
>Makes same sound as German 'ö' I know user, Norwegians and Danes use "ø" and we Swedes use "ö", so it's not in any way news to me that those two are the same letter. But how come you are using it?
Dominic Baker
hungarian verb conjugation is simpler than spanish though
