I like orcs, as long as they're not the mindlessly evil Lord of the Rings kind.
They're like the Ugly Duckling. Ugly on the outside and often encounter prejudice, but that's not their fault. Orcs are cool because they have to work for everything they want, be it respect or military success.
I don't like elves because they're the opposite, always so correct and arrogant, even when they're not necessarily any prettier on the inside. Elves get stuff handed to them just for looking pretty or being the default good guys and that's not cool.
It's like with women. Everyone likes beautiful girls, but I respect ugly ones more because you know they have to work for what they've got.
If I had a daughter I'd want her to be ugly (or average) because then she'd know she's earned whatever she has, and similarly if I had to choose between orcs and elves I'd choose the uglier ones.
