They couldn't really get into Caucasus proper though, the first offensive stage in 1942 from July to October ended in massive failure they lost like 100 000 men during just the first offensive hence it ended in failure.

The Soviets started reorganization in 1940, they weren’t combat ready in 1941, and would’ve spent years to get ready. And even after that, as history shows, without proper combat experience they would’ve never performed well. It took them 2 years to learn how to fight against Germans. It took brits more than 2 years to understand that you should use combined arms warfare, while Germany had that knowledge already locked in

I'm not sure, but I think Hitler claimed that the SU was about to invade Romania and that would have cut off Germany from their most important oil fields, making further war impossible. The SU could have cut off oil exports at any time if war broke out, so Germany would have been fucked in that case. They knew a war would happen inevitably, so they decided to strike first. They also severely underestimated the red army and the production capabilities of the SU.

The Red Army won because it was superior, but tbqh if the Germans did fail in winter that's entirely their fault for not preparing. They thought the USSR would crumble in 12 weeks.
In any case the Soviets defeated the 1943 summer offensive rapidly and totally crushed Germany during Bagration in summer 1944. So they were better all around.

Germany was diplomatically isolated because the Nazis were super aggressive with everyone, I'm not sure anyone would have helped us if the SU attacked. But more importantly your plan goes against everything the Nazis believed in.
