We didn't want to conquer those places, we just wanted to prevent them from falling into another sphere of influence. Seeing as how since the war, they've had to let in our restaurants, use our technology, and work our factories, I'd say we accomplished our objectives.
You didn't do shit. We destroyed the British at Saratoga without you. When we were on our last ropes in December 1776, it was George Washington who crossed the Delaware with a force of Americans, and BTFO the Brits at Trenton, Assunpink, and Princeton. You didn't join until it looked like we were clearly winning and you wanted a piece of the pie.

They didn't... they farted around for years without results and would probably still be at it.
In the end, the King of France saw an opportunity to deal a blow to Britain and sent a fleet to sever the vital ocean link and troops to turn the comic land "battles" into actual warfare. And then Britain gave up within days.
