Poland does have some geographic advantages.
A larger coastline with two major harbors.
Almost round shape with easily defensible borders, no major salients
Being flatter also means it's easier to build rail and motorways.
Being further West is by default better.

I'm also guessing summers aren't as harsh and there's less/no droughts.

major rivers to the west, mountains to the south, sea to the north, only the east is somewhat exposed, but Ukraine and Belarus are no threat (not that Germany/Czechia/Slovakia/Sweden would be threats today)

I think both of these countries have a lot of potential.
The Poles and Romanians I've met are hard-working perfectionists and will do jobs we wouldn't even touch.

Unironically Germbro is right, Romania has 100x better nature than Poland. More of it and much more pristine.

Romania is 15-30 years behind Poland in economy and infrastructure
Even diplomatically, Poland has Schengen, Visa Waiver and generally better standing with major powers.
They seem to have passing the phase of the poor East European that is easily impressed and infatuated with the West. We're still in the 90s in a lot of things including this.

I'm sure Romania will get there too
