If you get along with your parents and like the area you live in then save all your money. My mom is psychotic and lives in a shithole in Detroit and as soon as I turned 18 I got my own place in Boston. About a third of my income goes to rent but I matured a lot and became very independent and it's nice being able to do whatever you want with no one around.
