In telenovelas, the protagonists are fair-skinned and good looking, and if any darker colored Mexicans are on screen, they're usually in the role of a lower class person, or an antagonist. Mexicans don't like to present themselves as people-of-color.

But still I think that the main factor at play here is that it’s only the upper class Mexicans the ones that can risk having an acting career because getting acting jobs is difficult. A lower or middle class Mexican that wants to act would risk a lot by following that dream. It’s kinda the in USA, the majority of Hollywood stars come from loaded families because they’re the only Americans that can afford to go to the most prestigious acting schools. Also nepotism has a big part in it, too, which is the reason for why there are so many Jew Hollywood actors and at the other side of the border it’s the same reason for why there is so many white Mexican actors.
