We talk about african languages in this thread either the most spoken or rare endangered ones, also did you ever study one ?
African languages
my uni provides Old Nubian courses
Nice, did you try it ? Also is sudanese arabic influenced by nubian alot or no ?
not really, its available but I never checked it out. Only some Sudanese tribes like Donglawis still speak it and they usually speak arabic as well
I like Ge'ez. sad to see it's dying, but at least the Church is still using it.
Every language there is rare and endangered
The issue is families only speak in terms they understand, because that's all they need for the tribe to function. It's thanks to pseudo intellectuals that we now have language courses in these made up languages with no structure
How is the education system in sudan is it effective also how did you learn english ?
Are you the ethiopian ?
the education system is anemic, outdated and based entirely on rote memorization. I learned english via subtitles on tv
no offense but if its so bad why are you taking uni courses in sudan ?
because I have a mental illness and only woke up after it was too late
I speak isiXhosa
I feel sorry for you, hopefully you make it bro, what are you studying if you don't mind sharing ?
The clic language ? Are you from that ethnic group ?
Yes it's a click one.
No I am Anglo.
medicine, glorified body mechanic and list-memorizer
Why and how did you learn ?
Nice do you ever plan on leaving sudan ?
School. It was an option you could take in high school so I chose it, because it helps you get into uni (where I'm at now) and apply for jobs n shit.
Nice man, so I guess you live outside of the white majority area ? Is it dangerous
>outside of the white majority area ?
>area ?
>area_?
>_?
>_
French speaker spotted
Nop I'm in a mostly white area. Just went to a good high school. Also it's violent everywhere, just depends on the time and conditions. For example even in majority white areas you can't go out walking in places at night.
yes and ?
how do you live in constant danger and be fine with it ?
For me it's pidgin
You are only in danger if you put yourself in that situation. Otherwise just be smart and you won't get fucked.
I'm reviving this thread only because you seem genuinely curious and it's on topic.
I am South Sudanese (born and partially raised.) Unlike the other guy, I was born in a small village and I speak a tribal language called latuko. It's not very well documented, probably less than a million speakers worldwide. Ask me anything senpai.
Mandé and Songhai appear to be chad languages
pidgin of what languages ?
seems faire enough
Thanks for bump, I'm looking at the language first before I ask you anything o it'S not just basic questions
why do you think that ?
I have a Yoruba wordbook
So this is not rteally about the lnaguage but about the religion of your people, I read a little story about why death is permenant, what others storys does your people have ?
Nice, are you interested in nigeria ?
how does a continent have such linguistic poverty? when will the bantus pay reparations to the pygmies?
Post vocaroo of the navy seals pasta translated into latuko
>a little story about why death is permenant,
Woah, how many generations did it take for them to figure that out ?
(just bumping an interesting thread with acidic comment)
lmao
I should say that a large percentage of us are Christian converts, including the ones in the villages. That being said, I know a lot of these stories and many people, including my mother, still believe in parts of the old stories. One is about how are ancestors who die are reincarnated as animals such as Elephants and crocodiles.
interesting, also I can't find much about the language like you said, do you plan on recording the language or documenting it.
