It's not. I've never liked the Thrawn books. They always felt like Zahn wanted to be writing something other than Star Wars. I like Thrawn as an antagonist though, if only because he's different from the usual red lightsaber wankery that dominated the prequels and the EU. But even if I liked the Thrawn books they're still just a few among hundreds.

He is really quite the hero. Makes such a massive difference that the Death Star destruction was also an act of internal sabotage.
