They’re for teenage girls, user. No one else watches any of that shit.
why would you want to watch soap operas?
>oh no boy falls in love girl but her disapproving parents won't let her
That 99% of Kdramas
not surprising. korean women are overgrown children who live with their parents well into their thirties. worthless cunts.
Giving teenage girls internet access was a mistake
With all the hype around the movie Parasite, Train to Busan and other Korean cinema, surely there is some good media to come from Korean television, no?
What about chink dramas.
Goblin/Guardian: The Lonely and Great God
Crash Landing on You

Watch Japanese drama instead. Start with GTO (98) and Beach boys (97)
next watch my boss my hero (Japanese), Detroit metal City etc. There are many but these are entry portals
>my boss my hero
>The show is about Makio Sakaki (榊 真喜男), also known as "Tornado", a 27-year-old yakuza gangster, who wants to succeed his father as the head of the gang. However, Makio is not very bright, so his father decides to send him back to high school and makes a deal with him: if he can graduate he can become the new leader of the gang.
Except the yakuza part, it sounds like Happy Gilmore. And it says it's a remake of a Korean movie.
>Happy Gilmore
Fuck, I mean Billy Madison.
Literally they’ve been making the same three basic shows repeatedly for decades. Entertainment for gook insect people.
I've tried Stranger, Tunnel and Sky Castle. They all seem to go on for too long and not advancing the plot or they hit you over the head with something the dumb people might have missed.
Are there any good shows that are up their with Korean cinema?
Stay away from anything about romance because it's always super retarded. Lots of scenes where the guy is walking slowly and the female love interest is daydreaming about holding hands with her crush. Skip all the KDramas and watch crime stories or sci-fi instead.
I would watch them if there were only about cute girls without any cringy love story for housewives.
>Determined to escape a dead-end life, a gifted high school student turns to a life of crime to ensure he can pay for college.
This just came out on jewflix.
Kingdom was great. But IMO japanese shows are more varied in their stories. They also don't use plastic surgery actors that much. Naked Director was very different.
They are great. There are many genres. Even simply guffy love story is interesting mainly because of characters who you can root for. Yes, they are similar but I like them, you can see how much director can show you a story in some boundaries which you know
Yes it's a remake but the story is different. Give it a try. Korea also remade a Japanese series (legal high) frame by frame . (Available on Netflix)
(Fun fact : both mbmh and legal high had same lead actress)
Watch our little sister (Jap movie)
Based on what I've seen on Netflix, most Korean television consists of goofy romances, but Crash Landing on You looks like the most interesting of them due to its premise being about a South Korean girl being kept in hiding by a North Korean.
And then there's Kingdom, the zombie series.
>my boss my hero
mah nigga. seen that one already. thats a classic. gets me right in the feels every time.
the actor who played Sakaki was also in a pretty J Drama called Ikebukuro West Gate Park. It made in 1999/2000 and reminded me a fuckton of the old school Jet Set Radio Days in Japan, back when J Pop/hip hop and Japanese pop culture was at its peak. Really captures the feel of that era. Massive nostalgia rush watching that one. Used to be on Youtube with english subs, but some kike removed it.
Avoid kdramas. Had a gf who was into them. They're mediocre television that basic people watch to act cultured for watching something made in a foreign culture. They're a literal cross between soap operas and bollywood memes.
Kingdom, however, is a quality Korean tv show.
It was okay because it's just 10 episodes. But you really need to suspend your disbelief here for the edgy story.
This looks like something right up my alley.
Another pretty good dark KDrama was Strangers From Hell. Reminded me of a cross between Hostel and Fight Club. Not groundbreaking by any means, but good enough to watch for just a mere 10 episodes.
Excellent list!
Thanks user, there's some I'm forgetting but I know I certainly had a fun time watching those, very few times did I ever get bored or feel like the quality was dropping
They aired one on tv where I live. It was about a rich twink asshole and a tomboy stunt actress who switched bodies. Never really followed it because I didn't catch it from the start, but watching random scenes here and there it seemed pretty fun.
The Korean government has been spending millions on international lobbies for decades and worst Korea is the non-controversial choice from Asia for a myriad of reasons. While Japan and China are very nationalistic and try to preserve their culture, Korea has been dominated by a foreign power for centuries so they're used to adopt the invader's culture rather than develop their own identity. Therefore their movies dramas and music try really hard to be like America (they call it "to be professional"). Also the Korean performers go through a complete facial reconstruction for looking caucasian, what make them "exotic" but unthreatening at the same time. Finally, worst Korea follow whatever USA says and don't question its supremacy. Meanwhile China is the bad guy now and Japan only plays for Japan, as usual.
Koreans and the Korean government, who keeps winning in landslide elections, hate America though.
A good one to check out and see if you like it is Bride of the Century. It is from a few years ago, but I like the story.
