It's obviously cured in some way.
It's pretty delicious. Only part I dislike is the skin which I usually cut off, some people love the skin though.

i usually eat it frozen. you just slice it very thin and eat it with rye bread.

i don't like fat of any kind. i hate how chewy it is. once i was eating salami with a string of fat, half of it went down my throat but it was still attached to the part in my mouth. i almost puked

Same, my parents are from Poland and I never thought it was weird, not much different from bacon. But I cooked it for my room mates once and they said it tasted gross and threw it away. I guess its something you have to grow up with to appreciate.
