And before the time they could import food from other countries?
What did Nordics eat during winter before the 20th century?
semen
Farmers still work in the winter to ge ready for the next season. If you want more, ask /his/ for books
rotten herring
We didn't import food, we stored it. You're telling me you didn't store food to eat during the winter in hungary? Maybe that's why you were so hungry in the first place?
Northern Europe isn't Siberia. It's warmer than much of the US in winter thanks to the gulf stream.
frozen african sperm
carefully stored med cum
Fuck off with your garbage replies
I don't know
ik ook
we had these things, which we filled with cured meat, fish and whatever we farmed
fish and meat is available all year, and can be preserved by drying or smoking.
In freezing weather, vegetables can also be stored and saved for long periods. You put some vegetables aside and store them in the cold for the winter.
MVSHROOMS
Potatoes, fish, pork, beef, wild game, berries, root vegetables, bread, etc. Just standard fare. Most old houses have storage rooms underground.
ice cream
Thanks reddit.
I hearily enjoyed these kekstravagant posts. Loving every laugh!
we just unironically died from hunger lol
Actually the reddit meme is that Nords live in le freezing snowy climate
The gulf stream isn't as significant as is commonly believed. The climate here changes often as well. We have long periods of deep cold followed by periods of relative warmth. People were able to walk across the sea to continental Europe in winter only a couple centuries ago. These days, you can only do that in the northern parts of the gulf of Bothnia.
No, it isn't. Redditors try to be clever by being contrarian and "surprising" people like that; i.e. your typical besserwissers. They don't really care about facts or nuance that isn't immediately apparent, nor do they care if it doesn't give them that nice little dopamine hit.
Either way the perceived coldness of Scandinavia is really overblown. It's really not that much colder than Britain, and they call 1cm of snow "beast from the east".
Depends on how you look at it. Even though we're in very warm period at the moment, we do get quite cold temperatures in winter, even in the southernmost parts. I lived in Malmö 10 years ago (which is recent in this context) and it got down below -20° or so around Christmas, even though winters are typically quite mild there. In the northern parts (where I'm from) it bottomed out around -40° that year. I think this kind of thing qualifies as nuance by the way.
you're just mad because Canada is colder
giant mvshrooms
They starved, thankfully.
Probably large amounts of barley.
Probably fish on the coasts.
Large parts of it are much warmer.
