what does this last line mean? im not sure how it's relevant to the rest. I thought it'd be "I even remember her age (so I can't be that old to forget easily)", but the けど makes that feel odd.

very very old fashioned. You may say at least 縁なき衆生(the nuance is different, but I think it's more suitable here).
