They had actually begun an invasion on the Western front after taking some initial land when the Pakistanis unilaterally surrendered and called for a ceasefire, and the UN security council threatened to intervene unless India accepted it

Instability in that region of course. How else do the bankers profit? It's more profitable for the elites for wars and poor relations between the two countries. Rothschilds have been funding wars/insurgencies for hundreds of years now.

Because India was a socialist democracy at the time and was decently close to the USSR (although they still threatened to intervene to stop the status quo in South Asia from shifting because an India without Pakistan on its back means an India with much more resources to develop instead of pouring into defense)
Nowadays the West generally backs Pakistan because they were "helping us" in Afghanistan against the Soviets (by using US money to fund the Mujahideen and Taliban to keep Afghanistan from threatening their own sovereignty) and now pretends to help us in the War on Terror (even as the ISI regularly funds terror groups in India and Afghanistan to this day, and Osama Bin Laden was found and killed very close to the Pakistani capital
