Not at all. South Korea, despite its alleged wealth, still largely looks like a third world country. I don't know what their spend their money on but it's definitely not aesthetics and urban planning (which is a requirement to be considered a fully 1st world country)

It's not about being cramped, Singapore is also cramped, the Netherlands are also cramped yet they look much more aesthetic and have decent urban planning. Things like a mess of overhead power lines or simply ugly architecture without any style have nothing to do with population density.

I could say it's Americans who are obsessed with how their neighborhoods look. If it wasn't important, why do you always have your grass perfectly cut and maintained, houses are clean and well kept, your suburbs all look like straight from Disneyland? This is something inherent to first world, firstworldness is not just about a sheer amount of money on your bank account, it's also mentality, prioritizing things like aesthetics over the number of products you have.

Again, the inherent trait of first world is that public aesthetics is more important than your personal convenience. You want to spend your money on something that improves your living standards more indirectly and contributes to the community more than to your personal life, only people on a certain level of development will understand this and South Koreans haven't achieved this stage yet.

It's not like I'm saying that Poland is better than Korea or Poland is first world. I obviously compare SK to truly first world countries like in Western Europe, North America etc. If it makes you sleep better, I don't consider Japan a first world country either, for similar reasons (except SK looks even worse than Japan).
