The first one's unironically a great summer movie. Fun performances, pulpy swashbuckling tale about ghost pirates and cursed treasure, really good score, lots of practical effects and extended action sequences.

Mileage may vary with the sequels but the first one is a classic blockbuster.

First movie is an 8/10 fantasy movie imo. Lots of fun action, good thrills, fantastic soundtrack.
Second movie took itself a touch too seriously, didn't have as much of a charm, but the effects were great for the time and the action was a lot of fun. I'd rate the sequel at a 7/10.
The third movie was pretty meh imo. It was all over the place, trying to open and close as many plots threads as it good because it was obvious that most of the cast wouldn't be returning for any more. The final battle, while fun, was lacking in the tension and thrills department. I'd rate it 6/10. I didn't watch any others after that one.
Overal, I wouldn't say the franchise is bad. I would say instead, that it is mediocre or "good" but not "great."

I remember the first one is fun as hell. I don't remember enough about the second one to have an opinion. Everything afterwards is dogshit.

Why is this being shilled so hard.

1>2>3 power gap>4 massive fucking power gap >5
You can tell within the first 10 minutes of watching 4 and 5 that they are soulless cash grabs, even with Ian McShane and the Sigur. 5 especially sucks shit and ruins based Barbosa in a weak ass redemption arc.

Yeah I watched it because of Kingdom Hearts dude
The game spoils the entire movie but I wasn't mad, it's just a generic Hollywood movie, I don't even remember what happened there LOL
Like, I think Depp plays a quirky reddit faggot retard, but I guess most people like that type of character??

>calls someone else faggot.
>plays kingdom hearts.

Johnny depp is always fun to watch

I was so pissed about 5. I was expecting something similar to 4, which was a decent, albeit bland, pulpy adventure. But from the opening sequence you could tell 5 was gonna be complete garbage. Jack was a cartoon character since the 2nd, but Jack in 5 felt like a Friedberg/Seltzer parody of himself.

Visually it's ok. Storywise a load of crap.
Don't Johnny still got all his fingers?

Every time this happens it seems like it’s because it came to some streaming service, did anything change for these movies about where you can stream them?

First one is just a good film, the second and third films are so baffling as to be incredibly entertaining despite a lot of flaws, like we go from a fairly normal pirate fantasy, to Hell-prisons, pirate holocausts, high-concept hell filled with weird crabs, and more back stabbing and double-crosses than Venice in the 1500s. All of that combined with fantastic and imaginative visuals from when Disney had the greatest CG artists on earth instead of chink CG farms, and a fantastic soundtrack. The pirates trilogy is singular and strange, well worth watching regardless of the individual quality of the films, simply because I can't believe somebody actually turned this into a big-budget blockbuster.
I wish we could have it back, as it was then.

Davy Jones and Barbossa are the best characters. This is a fact.

I agree with this post, they are not as good as the Lotr trilogy but better than anything from the 2010s I can think of, in terms of adventure blockbusters on that scale.

Davy Jones is based as fuck. And that 15 year old CGI is still better than half of what's being shit out today.

The second and third were actually 8/10 movies

The first one was great, second one decent, third one utter fucking garbage. Watching any beyond that would just be stupid.

unequivocally wrong.
The first movie is a pretty fun comedy, the second one was only created so they could create a third one, which in turn was utter dogshit created to pad their pockets, using CGI to fill in the atrocious storyline.
Anyone who enjoys anything past the second movie is an idiot.

Plebs. 5th Was better than the 4th

Indisputable. Indubitable.

Kino franchise. Second is the best

They literally turned the third one from a pirate movie to le epic lovebird romance. It’s utterly pathetic.

1 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >3>4>5

so you watch the 3. Ergo you are an idiot

>anyone who enjoys anything past the second movie is an idiot.
Your level of reading comprehension isn't proving me wrong, retard.

first is okay rest are varying levels of horribly contrived and cringe.

Recently watched all 3 in a marathon with my mates, made it how apparent 1>2 was.

YAG SBARROO

First one was amazing, second one was.. eh, 3 and 4 can fuck off, and YAAAHG SPAGGROO was a refreshing return to goodness
They kinda overdid it with the double and triple crosses and now the indian spice company is involved, and now the negress is a giant god or some shit and now i'm having a fucking stroke trying to keep up with whatever the fucks going on. It works best when they keep it simple.

the kraken dismantling that ship is where blockbuster cinema peaked

I love these god damned movies and I will keep watching them as long as they make them. The fourth is the worst one. Even the fifth had JAGSBARRO hilarity.

4th has the most kino mermaid scene in all of cinema. Plus Blackbeard was great.
