reminder Dode lucas rehashed episode 2 after watching the robot scene in OP's movie. and i agree its one of the best sci-fi flicks if not the best of the 21rst century, Eylisum is the only other sci-fi action that comes close.

You are retarded. For one, that's not routine work. He's sorting relevant images from a chaotic source and has less than seconds to react to try to puzzle out something coherent. Imagine doing the same with a more contemporary setup.
Second, people still want innovation that is more ergonimical, efficient and intuitive to use. Keyboard and mouse is the standard we still have but it doesn't mean it's the best in the future.
MR came up with an interesting concept and even included haptic feedback with those wacom-esque gloves. Kinect et al tried to attempt this shit, but failed miserably. Current VR is now doing similar things, but you have to have a completely retarded setup to use it, and even then it's just focused mostly on entertainment. The point is, they all want or wanted to approach this movie's input because it had it right.
