Not sure. Everyone knows Wonderwall (which has become a meme) but plenty of Americans are aware of and enjoy Oasis. They just weren't massive in the states like they were in the UK during their hey day so people exaggerated that into saying that Americans literally don't know who Oasis is. I personally haven't heard any of their songs post-BHN, just kind of lost interest. But anyone with a passing interest in 90s alt rock knows them
