To be honest, the problem is that everything that came after T3 was progressively worse than it. Salvation had huge potential (a movie finally centered on the Future War) but fell flat on its face. Focusing it on Sam Worthington's character and toning down Cameron's apocalyptic aesthetic was a kick in the nuts.
Genisys was laughably bad, basically a diarrhea-tier pastiche of some elements from the previous movies in a deranged plot to try and reboot the franchise.
And about Dark Fate: Well, they weren't wrong with the title. Only in the darkest timeline possible someone would've attempted to follow T2 with one of the worst sequence of images ever put into (digital) celluloid. It will be used as a torture device in the near future, I'm willing to bet.

T3 was better than T2. T1000 is a stupid overpowered mess that breaks the setting concieved by people without foresight or sense. Terminatrix is the depowered version designed by people that understood the former.
Alright maybe not, the film can get goofy, but as I grow older I dislike T1000 more and more.

The T1000 is the perfect antagonist for T2 because it's the only "realistic" way you can keep tension in that setting. The T800 was already established as a nigh-indestructible monster in the first movie, how do you put something even more fearful against it? Anything that was still mechanical in its core wouldn't work, they needed to go full autismo in order to recreate that feeling of constant, impending doom from T1

I considered him only to be powerful because the protagonists were so weak and ill-equipped. You could've also written in some 'brain damage' when they reprogrammed T800 or something like that. You're probably right ultimately but I just don't think symbiote Terminator is as cool anymore.
