We believe in the big bang because right now it's the most plausible theory and the one that fits what we have observed the best. I do not rule out the possibility of a god existing, it could be possible, but there is truly nothing pointing us in that direction, no proof, so it doesn't seem likely to me. If the big bang theory would be proven to be incorrect, with another theory about the creation of the universe being proven right, atheists would reject the big bang and move start believing in the new theory. Theist would not, they have faith in their god and will not abandon him, even if the universe has been proven to be created by something else.
