Look I get it, I post here often and see how much the 25- 30 year olds love Smashing Pumpkins and how there's Billy Corgan threads almost daily. But the reality is, they weren't one of those bands on top the world like you think they were. They were marginally popular at best. I was a teenager then and the only song I remember getting any airplay by them on radio was Rat in A Cage. People just didn't care about them. I didn't know any of their fans. In 1996, bands like Green Day and The Offspring were way bigger. Beastie Boys and Chili Peppers were still huge. Rage Against the Machine and Sublime, all bigger. Stone Temple Pilots and Soundgarden were still big as well. I went to parties every weekend and nobody was listening to fucking Smashing Pumpkins.

And for the record, because I know somebody will try to claim otherwise, nobody in America knew who Oasis was either. If Smashing Pumpkins were small time. Oasis was a bunch literal nobodies over here. You can blame the bongs that shit up this board for making you think they had any degree of fame or notoriety whatsoever. Most people only knew who they were from an SNL skit with Will Farrell. Beck was even more popular than they were.
