Never seen the anime cause I'm a filthy casual at anime and the only only I watch is one piece
its not work if your not responsible for results, so....
Has anyone seen EoE without watching the series first? How does it feel in that case?
anno is a hack
Are you being stupid on purpose or are you actually dumb.
SHUT THE FUCK UP WEEB
I feel sick
Do you even know how creativity works? It's an iterative process. The artist who made that image was probably inspired by something else, or he was obsessed with women in water or something. Then it inspired Anno. It doesn't make someone a hack.
that Laserdisc package is some of the best home video packaging ever made
Feel like the guy who made it just used the whole thing as a Descartes-esq self examination of why he's depressed. Could have just kept living life and he probably would have run into the answers he was looking for instead of wasting so much time and money chasing his tail like this.
The "deeper" the anime, the shittier the anime. Literally all they shove in there is because it "seems cool", "looks cool" or "sounds cool". It's the definition of style over substance pseud shit.
I prefer the series finale. What made the series good wasn't the lore or the action or the allusions to judeo-christian mythology or the overly convoluted schemes to turn mankind into primordial orange juice, but the characters and their internal struggles and I felt the series finale did a better job resolving those than the movie.
Kino of the highest order
>defending cartoons
Yep, time has come to burn this place down
When I watched NGE the first time, I actually prefered the ending of NGE and I still think EoE is not really necessary. I do however absolutely love the Komm, Süßer Tod scene and the ending. I do also not think that it was pretentious at all. It was really just like an instruction to love yourself and to be good to others around you. I liked that.
>make a generic anime
>throw in a bunch of biblical symbology into it to make it seem deep and well thought out
>idiots eat it up and claim it's a pleb filter
my suspicions get more and more confirmed every time they make a new movie with a brain dead title
>EVA 3+1
what a fucking idiot. It's like a 90 IQ japanese guy is trying to make his own Twin Peaks: The Return
This place? You mean the anime website you're on?
this
Meaningless pseudo-intellectual bullshit
The plot is literally nonsensical
>he thinks the biblical symbology is why people say eva is deep
I know Anno says the symbology had no purpose but I really think it did, to filter out utter retards like you.
Anno actually never said that
The High Ceiling
It's an alright mecha show and I enjoyed the manga as well. Not my favorite MotW but generally alright. Haven't seen the movies yet though.
The scenario is actually pretty straightforward. It’s just a multi-layered conspiracy.
Layer 1 is the cover story. The general public believes Earth was struck by a meteor, causing widespread devastation, and so construction of Japan’s new capital city is underway in Hakone. This part is not explained very well, but pretty vital: nobody outside Tokyo-3 knows what’s going on there, because the construction is being done in secret. When Shinji enters the city, it’s like he’s been whisked off to Oz or something. (I don’t believe anyone outside the city is ever informed what’s going on.)
Layer 2 is then the basic premise established early in the series: the ‘meteor strike’ was an actually an attack by a giant alien. The United Nations covered this up and have spent 15 years secretly studying alien technology and preparing for a future war against the aliens. Tokyo-3 is one of several “fortress cities” designed to safeguard humanity. Nearly all of the people in Tokyo-3 believe this, including most of the protagonists.
Now, Layer 3 is the most important - and yet least-understood - part of the story. The quasi-secret society SOUL, which nearly controls the UN, is deliberately provoking the alien attacks* in order to justify the creation of a totalitarian New World Order: Tokyo-3 is secretly ruled by a SOUL supercomputer. The elections are fake. The schools are a front for military recruitment and propagada. Misinformation is everywhere, surveillance is omnipresent. Even basic interactions are staged. And the threat of global annihilation justifies a near-unlimited budget for all this. Although SOUL is attempting to bring about the singularity, they envision a technological singularity along these lines. They’ll make themselves immortal and turn everyone else into drones. (That’s where they conflict with Shinji’s dad, who is performing bizarre psychosexual rituals and has a personal agenda.)
Without this context, the series is basically incomprehensible - because the characters are literally put on trial at the end for their complicity in the rise of technofascism. The interrogation cuts through all their excuses like “I was doing it for the good of mankind,” or “I needed to impress my dad,” or “I wanted Shinji to have a normal life”, etc. Because there is no excuse for the injustice.
*After the ‘Adam’ alien vanishes, there are no attacks for 15 years - until the exact moment Rei test-pilots 00. This is coincidentally the exact same day Shinji is summoned to the city. They knew the test would trigger an attack.
OH NONONONO, the weebs are getting desperate
>the plot is actually pretty straightforward
He didn't say it wasn't. This is why Eva fags are the fucking worst. Can't criticize this garbage without one of you braindead retards coming around to over explain the plot as if people don't understand it from the start. Everyone gets it. It's not deep. It's just faggoty nonsense.
not them but you ARE on a mongolian throatsinging anime posting website
Kino beyond kino.
>
>the plot is literally nonsensical
he did say it
>something can't be both straightforward and nonsense
pseud
'nonsensical' just implies the guy didn't apply himself towards understanding the narrative.
Is that why it says Zig Forums- Television and Film?
The mythology is actually rudimentary biblical stuff, couched in goofy sci-fi terminology. For better or worse, Anno’s presuming that you are (or will become) familiar with the bible: “Adam” is an avatar of the Old Testament God. Kaworu is the second coming of Christ. Angels are angels. Evas are demons, etc.
However, there’s a ‘twist’: there is no actual immaterial God. Adam was just a dude who went crazy, and the angels are just mutated humans. So, when the angels search for Him, they accidentally uncover the Real god, a material god: the demonic Lilith.
Going back to the beginning: the scientists at BRAIN are messing with an ancient alien power source. They send an anonymous test subject (let’s call him ‘Bruce Banner’) into the plasma pool, and he’s mutated into a massive atomic rage monster. This hulking, shapeshifting embodiment of Bruce Banner’s anger lays waste to the entire continent of Antarctica before, evidently, disintegrating from the sheer rage.
The resulting fragments are referred to as angels. Born lost and confused. They have an innate drive to ‘be whole again’ - which, I presume, is a reflection of Adam’s last thoughts as his psyche was torn apart. At some point, SOUL gets ahold of a baby Angel and uses it to make a clone of Bruce Banner - but they also extract the ‘program’ that governs the behaviour of the angels, and put it inside him. This is Kaworu.
Perhaps because Bruce Banner was a religious person, Adam’s wrath features a half-dozen references to the OT: Noah’s flood, the destruction of Sodom, the plagues in Exodus, etc. But humanity was actually created by Lilith.
