How is it possible Hollywood did not fuck this up? The movies have artistic integrity which has been practically extinct ever since in high budget films.

>Hollywood
Probably because it wasnt made in Hollywood or by Hollywood people. Maybe some funding and backing from Hollywood, but the cast were virtually all non-Americans with zero Hollywood work and being filmed in NZ meant it was away from the Holleood culture.

It was made far from the jewish trickery of hollywood. Dare I say, based.

tfw nothing like this can never ever be created again unless we're hit with WW III

WW3 : the zionists vs the bolsheviks; either way you dumb goys lose

Because the LOTR trilogy was made at exactly the right time.

The books were a fucking huge phenomenon, and when Jackson was making his movies a lot of the kids who read LOTR growing up where now in high positions of power. Jackson had a bunch of suits on his side because they wanted LOTR to be done justice just the same way he did, if it had been made earlier or later it wouldn't have gone down the same way.

Even when I watched these movies as a kid, there was something about the LoTR movies that really put them in a separate class above the usual hollywood classics I watched.
The dialogue was authentic and rich. These characters felt like actual people living in a fantasy world. No weird pop culture references or modern lingo to break immersion.
The production design was on another level. I think it was kind of unheard of to see a movie with a big ensemble cast, huge hordes of extras, all given very interesting costumes and props that all felt like they were hand-crafted.
The soundtrack was also something else too. I don't really think I have to explain, it speaks for itself. Every track in this movie is recognizable and it basically sets the tone for everything LoTR related going forward.

It was also a time where more chances were being taken with high budgets. It's a period in our history we may never see again due to the rise of Internet and user generated content. The dream of Hollywood and movie magic may very well end within our lifetime.

LoTR trilogy is one of the last movies where they were allowed to spend at least a year on pre-production. I think this explains why they were able to release these movies on a steady schedule without really sacrifcing quality. The sets, props, and tools were already there for them so moving onto the next movie was probably an easy process.
If you compare it with something like an MCU movie, for example, the major action scenes and set pieces are made first and then cobbled together by a team of writers who are also working in tandem with a team of producers.

i remember that as long as i know, there was this statement: LotR is not screenable, then Peter Jackson came along and made this movie, pretty sure Hollywood didn't know how good it would turn out and how many people would pay shitloads of money for it

half of the main cast is American

>The dream of Hollywood and movie magic may very well end within our lifetime.
Do you honestly think movie magic still exists nowadays and that people are looking at Hollywood with pride and love? Hollywood is a scum infested dumpster fire that's completely soulless and a hollow shell of what it used to be. The magic has been dead for many years dude.

combination of right place and right time
also Jackson was able to plan production of the movies and polish the scripts over the course of a year and a half, normally movies have to do all their pre-production and tech R&D in less than 6 months

those movies did not age very well in the special effects department (it looks very wonky).

and some characters personalities from the books have been "tweaked" resulting in them becoming irritating (read: merry, pippin, gimli & legolas).

but overall the entertainment value and the sheer scale of the project still offers a good time

Some other user posted these vids in another thread and I think everyone who loves the films should watch them

they're in spanish so turn on your subtitles. if that turns you off, just do yourself a favor and watch the first ~5minutes of the first video and then make a decision.

We were extremely lucky

At the same time, the means of production are now so widely and easily available that you can film a perfectly watchable film on an extremely small budget. Hollywood is dying, but I'm very excited for the future of independent film

The production design and score are truly god tier. Other factors like acting and writing are also very good but those first two are 11/10.

Because /ourguy/ Harvey Weinstein believed in it.

How would the Amazon series compare?

Time to watch LOTR for the tenth time this year

As a zoomer who was born in 2000 and didn't get into reading LotR until this summer, I feel like I truly missed out on exploring Middle Earth as a kid.

Instead, I grew up watching Space Channel 5 and No More Heroes playthroughs and the AVGN on YouTube.

holy shit

don't think about it

It's fucking amazing, you get to enjoy the movie in whole new level

>watching Space Channel 5 and No More Heroes playthroughs
>not playing the games you are interested in, but watching somebody else doing it

This is something I will never understand, probably because I am not a zoomer.

As a millennial who could've explored Middle Earth as a kid but wasn't interested at the time, I felt I had a better appreciation for it as an adult.

>How is it possible Hollywood did not fuck this up?
Jackson had complete control.
The studio execs kept their butts of out the movie.
Jackson had years of pre-production.
It was during a time when diversity wasn't required.
It was before CG took over all special effects shots so everything had to be done with loving care.

>How would the Amazon series compare?
We're probably going to get black elves.

>this fucking series
absolutely amazing. takes the music to a whole nother level.

>Arwen shoehorned in all 3 posters
Why?

>Why?
needed that female representation and she was to have a larger role but it all got cut out. (some got replaced in the extended)

She is also a yuuuuuge motivation for Aragorn.

>want to rewatch it
>already watched them this year
Feels bad.
