What's the consensus?

I really want to watch this show cuz I need to find another show that scratches that Twin Peaks itch, but from what I've seen in the recent trailer they blow their cthulu load right away. Is it a dream sequence? Is there hope? I just want a show with some subtle creepy mysteries.

I thought 1st episode was solid all around. Pretty dope creature effects already, and as long as it takes for weird shit to happen, the gore was unexpectedly brutal. I'd call it "intense" so far, not really scary at all, not sure if this is even going for horror vibes because I haven't read the book. But yeh. I'll keep watching. Even if the "cosmic horror" isn't all that cosmic or horrific, it at least has an intriguing storyline going for it.

Just watch it man, first episode was great and the creepy isn't monsters.

It's cringe. Take away the woke shit (which is 90% of the episode) and it's just a boring story with monsters thrown in. Maybe blacks and self-hating whites dig this sort of shit but to me it was unwatchable.

The irony of the whole thing - and I think this helps explain blacks' obsession with this era in their history, is that in spite of all the literal oppression they were reasonably prosperous, had stable families, dressed nicely etc.
