I’m not being a contrarian stick in the mud here but seriously Midsommar is a horrible movie

>get to the festival and it’s pretty much all over the rest is a drawn out exposition dump basically watching live mice trapped in a cage waiting to die
>the director thinks we’re rooting for the guys to make it out alive so when he kills them it’s like he’s winking and nudging is on the shoulder “hehe I bet you were rooting for the guys to live right? WRONG” when actually we didn’t want them to do anything other than die the whole time
>people have the gall to say DUDE THIS IS LIKE AN ACID TRIP ITS SO CRAZY when all it has going for it is a few well done choreographed scenes and costumes, but it all still feels pretty flat

My little brother was like this, think he saw it in theaters 2 or 3 times. I love the guy so I didn’t rain on his parade. I don’t think I could sit through this whole movie again but I would jump around and watch a couple of the death scenes again

To put it in perspective, imagine if this had instead been a film about Americans visiting an Israeli kibbutz that practices blood libel and human sacrifice, or an African village that practices shamanism and cannibalism.

This is the low IQ take. It's not an assault on whiteness, it's just an occult film made to fuck with your head. And I don't mean that in the way that it's a film about the occult, I mean the film itself is occult. It's cursed, made in a specific way and filled with specific imagery to cause you mental distress. Everyone I know who watched this movie with a loved one had their relationship strained. It's evil, just not in the way you think.
