I just watched the first 30 minutes of this movie hoping that it would be the exposé of social media that people need to hear. Instead I watched a scene where a family's daughter broke into a locked container to reach her phone when her parents locked it for dinner time. Are there really people that are that weak? How can you consent to giving birth to a child and not be willing to control their social media usage?

>How can you consent to giving birth to a child and not be willing to control their social media usage?
I don't think all of us were limited to "1 hour of computer time a day" as kids
I wasn't either. My point is that if social media usage is something you care about, how can you give birth to a child and not be willing to tell your kid at dinner to put their phone down.
does a child need a phone?
Based autist
this
Why would you even buy a smartphone for a child before they turn 13? Most social media has an age requirement of 13 anyway.
In my opinion, no, but once they reach a certain age, social pressure mounts and they'll get bullied if they don't have one.
if you don't have a smart phone in kindergarten and at the latest grade school you'll be bullied and turn into an incel shooter by the time you're 13..
why would you send your child to school and not home school?
I'm not American.
This shit was so weird.
Like you, I thought it would be an expose of social media with talking head clips from industry insiders which is partially is, but they felt the need to insert this weird sci-fi drama into the middle of it. It's poorly shot and even more poorly acted with a nonsensical plot and under-developed characters.
Why not just make it an actual documentary?
Getting homeschooled is a meme among idiot americans on Zig Forums. If your kid gets homeschooled they'll have 0 social development and it'll definitely be bad for them. Sure there are bad schools/schooling systems out there but you need your kid to interact with other students at a normal school.
I completely agree. It's not like there isn't material to criticize concerning social media. Don't get why they couldn't just focus on that
It's supposed to be easy to watch to the most amount of people possible not just internet autists
I could easily see how this documentary could keep my mother or fathers attention
>If your kid gets homeschooled they'll have 0 social development and it'll definitely be bad for them.
I’m public schooled but my wife is homeschooled. This is a complete meme. Homeschooled kids grow up being unafraid of talking to anyone, especially adults. My neighbors homeschooled kids come up to me while I’m cutting firewood and start randomly gabbing about the games they’re playing, their superpowers, etc. Public schooled kids only know how to talk to other kids, while homeschooled kids get a jumpstart on normal adult social interaction
I live in a relatively condensed area of the country, so I'm speaking on my experience. I get that if you're living in a more rural area it can be more normal and beneficial for a kid, and I respect this take.
>but you need your kid to interact with other students at a normal school
Ah, you see
>a normal school
therein lies the rub. Because of redistricting I was sent to the fucked up nigger/chollo school (which used to be a "first start" school aka a feeder into or out of juvie that was reclassified the same year the district changed) and that's no place anybody wants to be, let alone a chubby white boy from a lower-middle class family. Did I learn about history, math, the social sciences or literature? Fuck no. Was I afforded the opportunity to socialize? Sure, if by socialize you mean "learned how to fight" because brown people gonna do what brown people do. I blame my current racial ill will on my experiences there and I would have killed to have been homeschooled instead. "Normal" is a perishable good.
I had the privilege to go to a decent private school. I get what you're saying, but I'm generalizing a bit.
a decade ago when I was 13 I was embarrassed that I only had 110 friends on Facebook as though it meant I was uncool or not popular. that kind of pressure on teens can be harrowing if no one tells them otherwise
It's horrible, and since you've gotten older it's become much worse. That's why I'm disappointed in this movie.
>are people really that weak
People do not go 5 minutes without getting a dopamine hit from their phone.
Nobody just waits for the bus, nobody just goes to sleep.
Thanks to smartphones, there is dopamine on demand, and kids today using them more than their elders is increasingly making them into addicts.
Bro I agree, but if you take the responsibility of being a parent, you have to be able to tell your kid to put their god damn phone down
They did a shit job trying to explain pizzagate
This was pretty bad, didn't do much other than state the obvious and repeat things I've already heard from ten other sources. And the little scripted "dramatic" interludes with the family were terrible, and added absolutely nothing other than padding out the runtime
deleting Facebook was the best thing I ever did and I will never make another social media account again
smart man
homeschool kids have meet ups with eachother regulery to soicalize,
as long as you do it right its fine.
good homeschool doesn't mean locked in your house, thats just means crazy parent
based
quite literally changed my life
>Public schooled kids only know how to talk to other kids,
If that, really you get sorted really fast in public school into the quiet group or the loud minority
consider this, not everything is made with the expert and well versed in mind in fact most documentaries are noob oriented introductions
>social development
Is a meme
If your kid is enrolled in any kind of club they'll be fine
All school does is teach you to care about trivial bullshit
