What went wrong with Apocalypse?

Abandoning the setting of the first few episodes (and the 'main characters')?
Too much focus on the witches?
Fucking time travel deus ex machina?

yes

Did the writers for this change part way through or something?

I only watched the first couple seasons, is it worth getting back into? Also, how come no one’s made a school shooter horror kino? That scene in the first season was great.

that;s what happens for all ahs seasons, they start of good and then shit the bed halfway thru

literally all except maybe the first 2 (more 1st than 2nd) and debatably freak show

Apocalypse best season, fight me

watch the carnival season and pretend there aren't any more

I like bits of it but it's a huge mess and time travel is always shit.

Most of them suffer from running out of steam and you kinda getting bored by the final couple of episodes. Seems to be a hard thing to avoid with horror series mind as Haunting of Hill House also had this problem.

I unironically liked Roanoke.
Fight me.

the late season twist almost always ruins it
the only time it worked was season 1 and roanoke

This.
I used to watch re enactment shows on sci-fi and history Channel with my dead. I liked it.

I liked it. Crap final episode though.

For me, it's MURDER HOUSE

>this is the only teaser for season 10

Themed around monster movies this time?

All I can think of is rocky horror picture show.

dentists

Did the aliens thing from asylum ever get followed up? I suppose they could do a scifi series.

Based necromancer

The series gave up on spookiness and mystery vibe.

At this point it's a worse Scream Queens.

>haven't watched 1984 or Cult because the series seemed too vanilla

I like my horror to be fantastical in some way. Am I missing out?

Cult isn't the least fantastical.

1984 kind of is in that people who die at the camp come back and the Nightstalker killer makes a deal with Satan to be immortal or some shit.

Both definitely the worst seasons.

They really need to drop the whole "they come back as a ghost" thing.

That and people instantly dying from the front of their throat being cut op (if you don't cut the jugular, they'll take an age to slowly suffocate, if they don't survive)

You answered your own question

Watched it once, thought it was okay. Mentioned it to someone, they simply said "at the beginning of each episode, think three words - feminist power fantasy". Re-watched, and holy shit.
>Women default to being more powerful than men, not through skill, but because "testosterone blocks magic"
>Literally two male characters that aren't shitting-rainbows gay
>That one scene where dude talks about spending his entire life making a poison that only kills witches, five seconds later, witches bust down the door "actually, you just ripped off a forumla made by a witch ;)"

To name a few.

Cults terrible.

Season 1 Scream Queens is based.

>those two developers who are literally incapable of functioning without a woman doing everything for them

I liked Cult the most because it didn't have any shitty ass ghost fucking things up. Seriously. Ghost on AHS are so loose with rules it ruins everything.

I wouldn't even care about the fags and feminism if the showrunners could keep their themes and atmosphere together to continue the horror feel, but they really can't and it shifts into parody and femsploitation within a few eps normally. The first three or four episodes of Apocalypse were neat.

The most spooky thing about Apocalypse is the chance that it isn't satire, or a parody.

Cult was just so forgettable, though. Hotel takes first for me, if only because James Patrick March is the best character the show has produced. That, and the serial killer hoedown scenes. Shit taste, I know.

I told a lie, forgot about Asylum was the best, hands down. Actually spooky, with some tension and character building. Thought that throwing the supernatural demon element in there and ayyliums was kinda jenky though. But the core idea - being involuntarily confined in a shitty asylum is actually kinda scary.
