Whedon is right. Actors do as they're told, they're cattle as Hitchcock famously said. If they want to write their scripts, fine, do it, find a director and go for it. If they want to ad lib, that has to be negotiated before the contract is signed or the director is ok with it. Otherwise, hit your mark and say your fucking lines, it's not that difficult.

What (allegedly) happened on the set of JL should never happen in the first place and if they stayed quiet, the people responsible will continue to act the way they did for other projects so he wants to make sure that doesn't happen and for it to deter others from doing so.
