when i was a kid I saw all the Back to the Future movies and loved them all, especially number 3. Couldn't tell you why I liked 3 the most; kids don't tend to use terms like "tone", "dialogue", "characterisation", blah blah blah. I just liked it because it was the one I liked.
Every few years for 20 years I would do a rewatch of BTTF, and it was always a great feeling knowing my favourite was still to come. Everyone knows most trilogies/franchises have their best movie at the start (flops don't tend to get sequels), and it sucks doing a rewatch of other trilogies and realising after the first one you don't really care enough to finish the series. So BTTF was my favourite because number 3 was my favourite, but I liked 1 & 2 still, and I could watch them knowing my favourite was still to come.
Then one day I found out on a Zig Forums thread that apparently everyone else thought BTTF 3 was the shittiest in the franchise. I thought it must just be a contrarian thread, but a check on IMDB and RT confirmed the horrible truth: BTTF 1 is a classic, BTTF is a worthy sequel, not as good, BTTF 3 was when they were milking it and thank god they wrapped up the series there.
I decided I don't care what Zig Forums or anyone else thought because I liked number 3 the best.
Now whenever I do a rewatch I can't help but notice that 3 sucks, 2 is watchable at best, and only 1 is actually good. I preferred being deluded.
Fuck you Zig Forums, you ruined my favourite trilogy.

the internet sucks like that sometimes. fuck popular opinion though, if you love it you love it, who cares what anyone else thinks. i neglect to revisit stuff i loved growing up because my life sucks now and if i revisited stuff i have fond memories of it'd probably suck now and ruin it

i find it easier to focus on things when i'm outside and the only distractions are strangers. like reading or just thinking in general. maybe we've rewired our brains to constantly seek dopamine, which is why i can't focus on a movie unless i'm drinking a beer and satisfying my dopamine receptors. might be good to shut off our computers for a week and see if life improves
