>Colonel Fremantle, it does not begin or end with my uncle, or myself. We're all sons of Virginia here. That major out there, commanding the cannon - that's James Dearing, first in his class at West Point, before Virginia seceded. And the boy over there with the color guard - that's Private Robert Tyler Jones. His grandfather was President of the United States. The colonel behind me - that's Colonel William Aylett. Now, his great-grandfather was the Virginian, Patrick Henry. It was Patrick Henry who said to your King George III, "Give me liberty, or give me death." There are boys here from Norfolk, Portsmouth, small hamlets along the James River... from Charlottesville and Fredericksburg, to the Shenandoah Valley. Mostly, they're all veteran soldiers now; the cowards and shirkers are long gone. Every man here knows his duty. They would make this charge, even without an officer to lead them. They know the gravity of the situation, and the mettle of their foe. They know that this day's work will be desperate and deadly. They know, that for many of them, this will be their last charge. But not one of them needs to be told what is expected of him. They're all willing to make the supreme sacrifice - to achieve victory, here... the crowning victory... and the end of this war. We are all here, Colonel. You may tell them, when you return to your country, that all Virginia was here on this day.
Ummmm.....wow, this DID NOT age well. I'm so glad the film industry is being decolonized and we'll never allow racist chud Trumpanzee trash like this to ever be made again.
>Worshiping a schizophrenic war criminal
Do Yankees really?
Dances With Wolves
Ride with the devil
trying too hard there breh
Only nigger I see here is you.
You’ve gotta be joking
Gods and Generals.
Glory was kinda bad.
Matthiew Brodrick had a really fake accent that wasn't consistant at all. He just makes that stupid surprised face he always makes the whole movie. None of his speeches were rousing at all.
Denzel was miscast, he's way too charismatic and babyfaced to be the loose cannon character.
Morgan Freeman becomes an officer for no reason, he just looks at everyone in a meaningful way without saying anything.
Princess Bride guy was okay but I didn't know what he was going for.
The guy with the stutter had a really fake stutter. When the guy with the glasses came on screen I was like "he will die tragically" and then he did. Except he just got shot and then he was fine for the final battle.
The first time the regiment is put into battle they don't have bayonetts, the rebs are getting closer and closer and noone has bayonetts. Then suddenly, matthiew brodrick yells "charge!" and everyone has bayonetts affixed magically. Big oversight, ruined the whole fight for me.
that sucks. yelling “fix bayonets” is the high point of every civil war movie. how can you leave that out?
You can't really compare the two.
One is a middle school history lesson while the other is an "inspired by" half-realistic story.
That being said, Glory is astronomically better in terms of entertainment. Lincoln is a bit of a snooze fest with too much on the nose dialogue.
Lincoln could have been so much better if they had included battle scenes from the Overland Campaign or the Siege of Petersburg, so as to paint what was at stake when it came to ending the war and the thirteenth amendment.
What I love about Sherman is that he was friends with Joseph E. Johnston post-war, offered all Confederate soldiers lenient surrender terms, and even recommended Nathan Bedford Forrest to the War Department when Forrest offered his service for a potential war with Spain.
Hardly the fiery devil of modern legend.
Complicated man for our time and definitely deserves his own biopic.
I had no idea the Civil War was fought between silver haired overweight middle aged men until I saw that film,
>Lincoln alters history by throwing Connecticut under the bus
>i... it's for muh pacing
>i... it's muh dramatic license
Fucking trash
Will this ever be topped?

Jude scenes were kino. Half the film wasted on Kidman and Zellweger bullshit.
It's better with reenactors who actually want to be there and get the autistic details right than a bunch of teenage no-name soiboi faggot extras who are just there to get a paycheck and will complain to SAG if they're made to drill and march in formation. You don't get unscripted moments like this with people who don't give a shit about their characters or history.
grant's recent popularity is really funny. its done as a reaction to the civil war confederate flag discourse. but at the end of the day, grant was a utter drunkard simpleton who's military strategy was "throw meat into the grinder," and who's presidency was one corruption scandal after another.
A movie about niggers that got slaughtered charging Fort Wagner for no gain. The crowing achievement for the USCT in the war was them not throwing down their rifles and running at the first sign of danger. That's how low the bar is set for black people.
>casually omits that the Union army was already in Confederate territory, which is why the war began in the first place
Vile savage, and a rapist.
Cringe
>for no gain
That's kind of how a lot of the Civil War was fought though.
Burnside Bridge at Antietam, Cold Harbor, Pickett's Charge, the Battle of Franklin, and the list goes on.
Shermans actions also continue to age well since he only harmed southerner chuds.
>the whole movie built up to this disastrous slaughter that was probably done on purpose because they didn't want white people to do so pointlessly
>grant's recent popularity
???
Harsh lessons that eventually got taken over to Europe in WW1, where 'no gain' was like an achievement in being just futile enough to never make a difference in anything.
>Confederate territory
>Joseph E. Johnston
They killed the wrong Johnston. Imagine if Albert Sydney Johnston had been the one facing off against Sherman in Georgia.
>why are you boys fighting us?
>because you're down here
Holy shit. Were they incompetent?
