"Hollywood" doesn't exist but leading actors usually end up being promoted simply because they are leading actors. Its the same in pop music when ever someone manages to sneak in a hit out of the blue, suddenly everyone is talking about you and wants to be your friend. We don't live in a time when actors are important to the success of movies. Most likely this guy got a leading role almost by accident, such as having three other actors turn down a role and then being offered it. But once he's gotten than role he's a leading man and as long as he doesn't get into trouble, cause problems on set or fucks up the promotional tour, he'll keep getting roles.
