I think it isn't so much the lack of interest in Princess and the Frog as it was the lack in 2D animation as a whole once 3D animation began replacing it. It's a real shame, considering the talent you get from Japan and indie animators over here.

Nah, Disney made its billions off of the MALE Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy, and their theme parks. The Disney renaissance had a bunch of male-oriented movies like Aladdin and Notre Dame. Disney went full gynocentric at around the time Frozen was made.
