They did not explore his story or the fact that he used to be a stormtrooper who probably did questionable shit AT ALL. which is a pity, because he was an interesting setup for a character.

I'm trying to remember a time when Finn's background as a stormtrooper was important to the plot, or used in any way. Granted I only saw these stinkers once each and it was some time ago, but I can't remember any point where him being an ex-stormtrooper was utilized. Was there such a moment in the movies?

They are right for different reasons.

Prequels - highly political but without SJW garbage. Politics focused on galaxy, war, etc.

Sequels - apolitical but filled with garbage SJW agenda. We don't get to know politics of the galaxy, senate, overall background.

Political side is actually very interesting. I loved prequels touching politics. I hate sequels forcing SJW agenda that has little to do with actual politics of the galaxy.

A deleted scene shows those stormtroopers running a train on him. Shame they cut it, it really adds context to a lot of his decisions.

This is the final redpill, if most of your characters are straight white males, you can't deflect criticism on racim/sexism or whatever, they have to stand on their own.

Him being a stormtrooper who was once stationed on the NotDeathStar was why him, Han and Chewie landed on it to rescue Rey. Only once they're on the planet does he reveal he was a space janitor. And of course Rey rescues herself and openly questions why they bothered coming to get her when she can take care of herself.

The only thing that makes sense is that Finn left the first order not because his buddy died, not because of the massacre of innocents, but because he was scared of death, which makes him a coward - hence his character arc in the first movie is that he overcomes his fear of the first order to go rescue Rey, who he apparently has a deep friendship with in the 4-5 scenes they have together. In the next movie his character arc is to not run away and fight for the resistance, almost identical to the first. I don't know about the 3rd movie, didn't watch it.
So really Finn is a very shallow character, when it could have been an in depth look at the psychology of a storm trooper, brainwashed from childhood to fight for this gigantic mysterious organisation. He should have been a highly skilled PTSD'd combat veteran conflicted about shooting his former brainwashed comrades. Instead he's a clumsy, inept black Jar Jar with plot convenient knowledge and zero remorse for killing faceless storm troopers.
