All the deeper stuff in anime is retarded psychobabble, made all the more confusing by them sometimes incorporating christian or Western imagery and themes and then cargo culting or perverting them cause they don't really mean anything to japanese. The entire culture is inexplicable. Why can't they just make some normal sci fi?

I like Pii-chan's drowsy eyes, I like how she's kind and sweet, I like how she's the thoughtful and smart kinda girl. The bookish type. I still feel affection for Annie, certainly, don't get me wrong... But for me, I'm thinking it's Pieck. Two different alien species landed on Earth: Adam and Lilith. They can't coexist and so Lilith dominated the Earth. The "angels" on the show come from the Adam line, humans descended from Lilith. Now the angels are returning to destroy humanity and take over Earth for their own kind. Using cloning tech, the evangelions were created and made for combat against the angels. Humanity however is not just playing defense, Seele, the organization behind Nerv intends to initiate third impact once the angels are destroyed: revert humanity to primordial goo and combine all of our souls. They almost achieve this, but Rei ends up taking the reigns herself during the process and gives control to Shinji instead of Gendo or Seele. The lessons Shinji learns throughout the show, that its better to have a real, though painful life is better than a fantasy fake life and third impact is interrupted.
